We’re thinking of renting for a few months in Costa Rica when my husband retires to explore the possibility of moving more permanently. If we bring our cats to CR, what’s involved in bringing them BACK to the U.S.? Is there some extended quarantine required or if they had all their vaccinations in the U.S. before we went, could we bring them straight in?
Please contact Dr. Adrian Molina who will be happy to give you all the up to date requiremenmts to get your pets in and out of Costa Rica

We have gone back and forth twice with our toy poodle as carry on luggage with not problem. All you need on both ends is the international small animal health certificate that both US and CR vets issue after examining your pet. There is no quarantine in either country.
The only problem we had was one time when American Airlines would not let our dog travel as carry on to a destination outside of the United States. They allow that within the States of the United States, but apparently do not know and do not want to know the laws of other countries they fly into.
Good luck.
