Hi David –
Yes, I’m well aware of the 10K limit as I’m in my 14th year of living abroad – I’m in Country #6 at present, and C.R. may end up being my 7th overseas residence. I’ve thus had the usual wire transfer headaches – always in the receiving country when wiring from the U.S. Things have improved in the past 5 years or so – but even when banking with ‘big name’ institutions the ‘headache factor’ often boils down to how modernized one’s particular branch is. Somehow I’ll just bet that C.R. banks could be a few years ‘behind’ in the upgrade curve, no?Furthermore, if the receiving country has local issues with money laundering, and/or if a bank is under scrutiny they might very well have good reason to ask questions when piles of cash pass through their institution…which is, to me, no different from the TSA questioning passengers, who are 99.9999999% of the time, not carrying plastic explosives in their drawers.
BTW – I use HSBC in London, (where you’d think HSBC service would be world class since it’s their HQ), and they so far have been the most annoying bank I have ever dealt with, bar none. Ex: they took samples of everything just short of my DNA to open my account and then 2 months later they promptly informed me they could not locate my identification paperwork and thus would shut down my account if I didn’t return immediately to prove my identity. Go figure.
Shockingly, NONE of the above has diddly to do with the U.S. taking over IRAs and 401Ks! 😉
January 20, 2010 at 4:36 pm #163498maravillaMembermy husband just reminded me that when he flew down here in october, they had a squadron of jack-booted customs agents on the jetway questioning people about where they were going, why they were going there, and how much money they had on them. this is apparently a new procedure, and designed to intimidate because each of these customs officers were over 6 feet tall and very menacing. gee, i can{t wait to fly again.
if things are getting more difficult worldwide to move money around you can be sure it is at the behest of the US. it is how they got USB to roll over and sell out their clients.
January 20, 2010 at 4:46 pm #163499kordanMemberYes, we have had clients had money returned the the USA 2x with a nice little $100 fee attached–then the people ended up having to apy a 1.5% fee to stewart title
I really don`t understand why this is so difficult to believe.January 20, 2010 at 4:54 pm #163500maravillaMemberwere those wire transfer fees? sounds like it. moving money aroun electronically isn{t cheap, and never was.
January 20, 2010 at 4:58 pm #163501kordanMemberIts very interesting that US pressure would cause a swiss bank to violate its own national constitution in the name of trying to ^catch^ people who want to put their money in a place away from greedy lawyers, unscrupulous creditors, irresponsible governments and predatory bank fees.
This is by the way coming aroudn the same time the the
Missouri Information Analysis Center issued a report stating that if you

yeah, that{s the ticket, get the C students to do your dirty work because the best and the brightest have more lofty goals than carrying a gun and being a little thug.
January 20, 2010 at 5:25 pm #163503soldierMemberSue,
I’m not sure what form is being referred to in regard to the transfer of monies. However, in October of 2009, I wire transferred $150,000 to our attorney in CR, for our home closing in November 2009. The monies were wire transferred to Bank of America in Florida, the fee was $25.00, then BOA transferred the funds to our attorney in CR. Three days later, our attorney notified us of receipt of the funds. In our case, no additional form(s) were required. I wire large sums to CR every six months, without any forms. The only form(s) I am aware of is a Department of Treasury form, if you have over $10,000 in a CR bank.
January 20, 2010 at 5:26 pm #163504sstarkeyMemberTwo words: Godwin’s law.
January 20, 2010 at 5:33 pm #163505maravillaMemberIt is precisely because such a comparison or reference may sometimes be appropriate, Godwin has argued[4] that overuse of Nazi and Hitler comparisons should be avoided, because it robs the valid comparisons of their impact.
and what else could would you call this ban of young thugs?
January 20, 2010 at 5:41 pm #163506soldierMemberclayton,
I am also one of those “Progressives.” If America is looking for me, I will not be hard to find. I come from a military family, stretching back to the Civil War. I myself, have served in Vietnam, the Gulf War, and Iraq. Not to mention (hush) classified missions in Central and South America. What is your military or covert intelligence experience. Freedom is not free. Many of us have served to insure that you and other americans can enjoy their freedoms. I am saddened that I and hundreds of thousands of other military members have to witness our country being destroyed by the current two party system, and, other citizens who sit on the sidelines and help add negative aspects to the destruction of our country. Do America a favor, grab a M4 and spend a year in Iraq.January 20, 2010 at 5:52 pm #163507kordanMemberI find it interesting that this thread seems to have formed 2 groups. Those who think everything is JUST FINE and those who are concerned about the erosion of privacy, liberty and common sense.
However those on this thread who subscribe to the ^EVERYTHING IS FINE^ side of the argument RESIDE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY!!!.
And in many cases–they live here because things are just too expensive in their own country for hardworking people with good jobs in many cases to live on fixed incomes that they payed their entire lives to have.As they say–makes you want to go HMMMMMMMMM

The Civil War was unconstituational because any state had the right to recede legally–and Lincoln Knew This
World War 1—The US knowingly sent the lucitania into German U-Boat waters and the german embassy published an article in the New York Times warning americans not to board the lucitania–plus it was carrying weapons and passengers–a major no no
World War 2–A Hawaiian newspaper published a front page story warning that Japan might attack this weekend–but wait I thought it was a sneak attack? And lets not forget the IBM sold hitler computers to organize the concentration camps–and Standard Oil held a patent on a fuel additive that was neccessary to run German Tanks and Aircraft. Not to mention Prescott Bush (Yes W`s Grandfather) convicted of trading with the enemy–the same Nazis our brave men were fighting and dying to destroy
Vietnam—the Gulf of Tonkin Incident????And regarding IRAQ—I have 4 words—Weapons of Mass Destruction–and While brave americans fight in Iraq for $18,000 a year and their families apply for food stamps, Blackwater Mercenaries are paid $250,000 for a 6 month tour tax free. And Lets not forget Gulf War Syndrome
Freedom isn`t free–it requires people to think for themselves based on REASON
January 20, 2010 at 6:41 pm #163509DavidCMurrayParticipantThere’s got to be a message in the foregoing. Can anybody help?
January 20, 2010 at 7:21 pm #163510maravillaMemberi think the message is that nothing is as it seems. the gulf of tonkin was a ruse, the iraqi invasion was based on false information, the luisitania was another false flag operation, and the list goes on and on and on about every coup, assassination, and democratically elected leader that we unseated, i.e. Arbenz, Mossadecq, Aristide, etc. then there is nicargaua, el salvador, panama — the cost to the soldiers who fight these illegal wars was/is death and disease.
January 20, 2010 at 8:23 pm #163511fishrmanMemberAlthough this thread is getting a little off track, it is still important to see that the U.S.A. today is NOT the country our forefathers fought so hard for. 😥 The U.S. has gotten away from its core principles (i.e. the Constitution) and is now being run by hoodlums in the guise of CEO’s and bankers, all with the blessing of Congress and the White House puppets! It is utterly disgusting and a shame! By the time the masses realize, if they ever do, what has happened, it will be way too late! The “incidents” mentioned previously were all deceptions planned by the people in power to rile the masses into action to achieve their goals of amassing more wealth and riches at the expense of the innocent and patriotic. There is a LOT of info out there about the deceptions that have been used to stir the masses into believing that we (the U.S.) has been attacked or is being threatened by some “3rd world power” (e.g. Saddam, Bin Laden, etc.,). Wake up and look at the truth, it is there for the seeing if you’d only open your eyes. 😯
