Scott-
Your 980th posting that Costa Rica is the happiest country in the world according to the Happy Planet Index for 2016, is screaming for comment. The HPI notes that Costa Rica was #1 in 2009, 2011, and 2012.
The whole thing is BS of course. Second place goes to Vietnam. Really? Vietnam? So, Costa Rica is marginally better than Vietnam?
For 2016 the U.S. is at #114, firmly between Madagascar and Nigeria this year. In another recent year it was #13.
And Denmark, which was #3 in 2015, is #104 in 2016. Duh!
Reminds me of a quote popularized by Mark Twain (originally from Benjamin Disraeli): “There are lies, damned lies, and statistics”
I’m reminded of phrase by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemmons) ….
”Figures don’t lie … but liars figure”
