I may be mistaken but I believe they are considered archaeological treasures and as such are protected but you’d need to confirm that…
But for goodness sake, don’t try and put one of these in the trunk of your car!

I got a better response from Wikipedia. But I have not found an answer to either question from eiher Wikipedia or this source. Does anyone know where any are for sale, and if it is legal to own them. Scott reiterates my concern that they may be protected archaeological artifacts. Does anyone know, or know where I can find out?

If it were me, and I was that concerned about it, I’d put it back.
January 16, 2011 at 6:21 pm #169374hasselwanderMemberThank you Jack. That was one of the most stultiloquent responses I have received.
January 16, 2011 at 7:32 pm #1693752bncrMemberHassle guy, I see where you got your name. First it was you that used the terms Stone Balls – hardly correct. They are archelogical granite spheres. And by thew lack of humor in your reply I guess you already own some.
January 16, 2011 at 9:19 pm #169376maravillaMemberI asked this question years ago when i saw one of them displayed in someone’s yard. i was told they were archeological treasures and while you may be able to buy one on the black market you would not be able to safely display it. these artifacts belong to the country, and the one i saw in that person’s yard was likely a fake as they abound here.

crltd.January 17, 2011 at 12:06 am #169378maravillaMembernot only are these spheres (i am not going to call them BALLS!) pre-colombian, but they are B.C. or so it is believed, and there are only maybe 130 of them in existence that they know of. i know where you can get a good copy, but it’s not likely you will find the real thing.
