Simon I just wish the government could get it right that’s all, they seem to do pretty well with space programs and the military(maybe these are not good examples, lol!) I currently have no health insurance as I am self employed and even with a pretty good income I just don’t want to pay $800 dollars a month($over $9000 a year!) for something I may need. At those prices I am better off paying cash for my doctors visits, also I generally only go to integrative physicians, homeopaths and the like which most US insurance does not cover. The cost of private insurers here is pathetic and you will fight tooth and nail to get claims paid. Lets remember they are not doing this for the “good” of the people, it’s for profit. My friend at work has private coverage through a company called Anthem. He had what turned out to be a kidney stone. He went through there doctors and protocol etc..was treated and is now well. He has been fighting a bureaucratic hell as they are refusing payment on about 90% of the bills with all kinds of bs arguments such as “operation not authorized, this could have been a pre-condition etc…”He is inundated with letters and bills, gets no where speaking with reps on the phone, poor guy is going to have a nervous breakdown, that’s the kind of service you get for $400 a month. I have many friends in the UK that are what one would call working class and everyone of them loves there health care as. I had 4 friends from London here a few years ago and one had to go to an emergency room….$800! boy was he a little surprised!! Listen if I wasn’t sending the US government $30,000 a year in taxes on top of all the taxes I pay on food, consumer goods, clothes etc…I would pay $800 a month and get private insurance in case of a catastrophic illness like cancer, heart disease etc…But lets stop talking about how bad the UK is and how bad Canada is and lets get a good health plan put together to serve the people!!! Let’s also remember not everyone has the extra money I have for basic doctor visits, like 40 million americans what should they be doing? Simon you are set in your ways you have a political and social agenda that you are married to and have identified what roles government should and should not play..you have a nice neat little road map you follow. Why not stop worrying about gold and Illuminati conspiracies and wander off into the jungle for a little while. Meditate on the transitory nature of life and feel part of this vast universe…live the Pura Vida! Soon enough it will all be gone and on your death bed gold, universal health care, TLC, socialism and every other ism will all seem so pointless. Why are you here and who are you? No one can tell you that but when you know it; then your life is a success and a deep peace will come over you…

I love that Lotus….
As for health concerns, unless it’s an emergency, come to Costa Rica, they really do have great doctors and facilities there. While in CR I unexpectedly needed surgery in 2001, I had to make a choice between US and Costa Rica. The cost difference was huge (and at the time I didn’t pay over $12,000/yr in NJ for family health insurance), but mostly I’m glad to have chosen CR because the doctors were magnificent and I was able to enjoy the typical ‘chineo’ (pampering) of my Costa Rican friends/family thru my recovery period. No better place to be to feel PURA VIDA! 😉 Rebeca.

What a surprise; I didnt think you could answer that and you didn’t!
I have the impression with you that you like telling people what they should and shouldn’t do. You seem to get upset when I don’t change my views to match yours and then you offer me personal advice to help amend my ways!
You should work for the Government!

October 8, 2007 at 11:21 pm #186953*LotusMemberI really have no desire to tell anyone what to do, nor have I done so here. I simply believe government should provide health care for its citizens from the taxes we pay…and you don’t, aren’t we allowed to disagree? I simply made a suggestion and based on your response I will assume I won’t find you meditating in the jungle anytime soon? Well at least that leaves you more time to “meditate” on a crashing US economy and you can bath yourself in gold bullion from your bunker! Lol!!!
