I have read about difficulties and a lot of paperwork for traveling to Nicaragua from Costa Rica by car. What about traveling to Panama?
It’s needed to extend 90 days stay. Car is mine with Costa Rican plates.
Thanks
You’ll need to get a knowledgeable attorney to provide you the documents you’ll need to take your car across the border either to Panama or Nicaragua. I don’t think getting the docs is any big deal, but you have to have them in order before you reach the border.
Why not just apply for residency and avoid the hassle and expense?
Would I be able to overstay 90 days right after residence application submission?
Besides, for applying for residency it’s required to have $60000 per person in Costa Rican bank, how is that?
Once your complete application for residency has been accepted by Immigration, you are no longer considered to be a “tourist” and are not subject to the limitation of a ninety-day tourist visa.
Rentista residency status does require the $60,000 per person deposit. Pensionado status does not. These are the rules we’re given to play by.
Will they accept residency application without depositing $60000 in Costa Rica or it’s a primary initial condition?
I understand that Costa Rican consulates in USA or Canada are dealing with the matter first, right?
Thanks
You need to consult a knowledgeable, experienced residency attorney here in Costa Rica.
Travelling to panama by car no problem. You need to contact a custom broker in panama an they will advise you. They charge about $120.00 for the paperwork and in david panama you will enter immigration and that is about it.
Just make sure you have your title to the car. but again the custom broker in panama will advise you.
You can stay in panama with the car for 90 days, extensions are available, speak to the custom broker in panama.
You will need a paper from the costa rica national registry showing the car is clear.
a costa rican attorney can get this for you.
But again first consult with a panama custom broker.
Hope it helps.
