According to channel 7 television news reporter, Luis Carlos Monk, at 12:30 p.m. on December 17, 2008. The world-wide economic crisis did not prevent 2 million tourists from visiting Costa Rica this year. This morning, at the Juan Santamaría airport, tourist number 2 million arrived.
It should really be the 2 millionth “white US-Canadian-European” tourist.. b/c there surely dont count the nicas /columbians/ other not natinalities they wish to attract based on a per capita spending capacity. Even Tourism minister, Carlos Benavides, said that the Biedrons are the typical tourist Costa Rica looks to attract.
Que son “Biedrons?
According to the Tico Times, ‘they were contacted in advance’ of arriving here!
It seems they were selected for their marketability. This taken from AM Costa Rica.
“
The parents Mark and Gretchen Biedron operate the environmentally sound Willow School in Gladstone, New Jersey. They have been written up in newspapers and magazines there for the way the school was constructed.
Carlos Ricardo Benavides, tourism minister, said the family represented the type of tourist the country was looking for, a person interested in the environment and seeking an authentic experience in Costa Rica. That was a way of rejecting the booming sex tourism business without really mentioning it.”
I wonder how long they looked for this perfect tourist? The “Two Millionth Tourist” is an honorary title rather than a count of bodies.
Alberto
With all respects……… 2,000,000 minus 150,000 perpetual tourists (3x a year), 300,000 Nicaraguensas, and 350,000 others leaves 900,000 “perfect tourists”.
Why does the National Tourist organisation need more money to get more tourists to Costa Rica ?
TWO million ? ONE big joke !
