I normally don’t add much here but after reading this article it just started eating at me until I had to post something in defense of the woman who killed herself. What I found offensive and suspect others did to is this woman being labeled “selfish.” Bottom line: how can you be “selfish” when you aren’t thinking clearly enough to be selfish? Who here has made their best decisions riddled with pain? Furthermore, how many of us have been in so much pain that we’ve successfully pulled a suicide off (zero.) So we can never know if this woman was being selfish or not-I suspect those were not her intentions. Our labels are meaningless and damaging, especially to the loved ones left behind. Furthermore, the author is automatically biased because of her connection to those that this suicide is causing further damage to so she wouldn’t be able to pen this objectively in the first place. Along those lines this demonstrates why we strive to pick “impartial” juries for our court systems. Think of how the tone of the article would have changed had someone outside the immediate circumstances penned it? No blame, I just think the author was too deeply involved with those affected to create a truely balanced article.
Good for you for standing up PROUDLY for those who suffer a terrible destination…one which they themselves design the path towards destruction~ I commend you for your forthright efforts & explanation~ Many have little idea what such an isolated place one is among when severe depression move in upon them! Shame on those who find it easy to critique…they are usually the ones who have little to no knowledge at all toward which they decide to boldly speak about~
