Hello,
I am planning on traveling to CR on vacation, but also to learn about different areas with a mind towards purchasing/renting a home for the winters/investment.
I would really appreciate any suggestions on best way to see and learn as much as possible during a trip., ie, should I make all arrangements before arriving, or wait and play by ear once there? Should I rent a car and explore myself, or find some good tours?
I think I will probably like the weather in the Central Valley best, but would like to also explore other areas.
Thanks very much in advance for your help.
Stephen
I would suggest that the quickest learning experience for what you are seeking is George Lundquist’s tour on Retiring on your Social Security.
George is a man who is more than willing share his experiences and opinions about your objectives here in Costa Rica. See this link, http://www.costaricaretireonss.com/.
Also make certain you read Scott Oliver’s book that are available here on the site. This two pronged approach and study will serve you well in your quest!

If you’re really serious about this, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. These are all very good:
1. George Lundquist’s tour: http://www.costaricaretireonss.com/
2. Chris Howard’s tours & books: http://www.liveincostarica.com/
3. Scott Oliver’s books & this forum
Thanks to everyone for the great tips!
I have looked into the tours and learned a lot just by doing that!
Your suggestions will definitely help me make the most of my visit.
Thanks again!
Stephen
