With all the discussions about global warming and the impact on rising sea levels, are people not concerned about buying at projects on the beach where there is little or no buffer to rising sea levels?
It hit home to me after reading the article on the Punteranas development. To quote, Punterenas “is a long narrow strip of land that is an extension of the Nicoya Peninsula, sticking out into the Gulf of Nicoya and it’s only about 200 feet wide at its narrowest point.”
Not to downplay the potential of Punteranas, but I’ve driven down the strip and is not very high above sea level. In 50 years won’t it be under water or unusable?
It’s funny you should bring this up because the morning the developers and I were finalizing our plans, that article came out and we discussed it and we decided to include a snorkel, fins and mask FREE to everyone who buys one of their apartments…
Only kidding…
The BIG question is “when” that could happen, the estimates range from 50-100 years “if” indeed they are correct so we have a little time and I think most of us have investment horizons somewhat shorter than that…
My former home of the Cayman Islands would be devastated as would the Bahamas, most other Caribbean islands, the Florida Keys and of course Manhattan.
It’s one reason I built my ‘escape’ home in the mountains …

PS. One can only imagine what would happen to New Orleans all over again …..
Do you think it would be any different to the Palm and World Islands in Dubai? That realestate is selling for $7,000,000 an island. I think I am more worried about earthquakes. On second thought, I don’t think I’m too worried about either one. Covered in water or an earthquake, which is worse?
We are glad we paid off our mortgage now instead still paying when ocean water is at our door saddle. So, we can sell now with less paperwork involved. But than again it’s nice to have Oceanfront property …..We are currently 12 miles inland and 7 ft above sea level and at the speed ice in Greenland and other places is melting we have to get the hell out of here.
One more reason to move to higher grounds or to CR.
