The extremists would never be so strong without widespread support from more moderate sectors, and this administration has failed utterly in wooing them.
Agreed, however the moderates do have a responsiblilty of putting the Extremists in their place or at least Disassociating themselves from the extremists.
October 24, 2006 at 7:35 am #179246Ripple33MemberI must agree with Jenny, If people truely believe this is a religious war then let god sort it out. Honestly what is the chance of winning such a war? Take a look at history. It really is not possible to wipe out all of the people who have extremist beliefs. Arent countries such as Costa Rica much safer because they dont attack, than countries such as the US who is agressive and has to police the world? I am sure there will be another excuse after excuse for this war. They keep coming up with more and more and the american people continue to buy it. It really astounds me how people could be so naive and just continue to allow the government to lie, change the story midstream, and spin everything. People need to wake up and hold the administration accountable for these crimes. I think the extremists are getting support because they are fighting against the US and the US is the one who has invaded their country, killed their people, raped their women, destroyed their homes ect. Of course they are going to support the people who offer to help get the US out. Look how the people of Lebbanon responded to hezbollah.Hezbollah was there to help when their buildings got demolished by Israel. They were the only ones sticking up for them. Who would you support if put in the same situation. I know we all want to think of the US as the good guys here but look at the situation from their viewpoint and think of how you would feel if another country came in and blew up your home, family, friends ect. Neither side is right. We are no more right for killing their people than they are right for killing ours. From a religious standpoint who would Jesus bomb? Come on folks really think about it. How would Jesus handle this situation? Certainly not remotely close to how the US is handling the situation in the middle east.
Peace!!
October 24, 2006 at 1:36 pm #179247dkt2uMemberBest tactic is to lay low and not give them a reason to strike out against us.
Now there is true ignorance
October 24, 2006 at 8:02 pm #179248Ripple33MemberGuess you better look for another country to move to. Costa Rica is pretty ignorant according to you. Over 50 years without a military and no terrorist attacks or wars. Huh maybe peaceful foreign policy has something to do with that? Also notice that the aggressive countries (coalition forces) are the ones that have problems with terrorist attacks. Wonder why that is. Do you have any suggestions on how to handle terrorism? We cant kill them all. why not let them kill each other like they have been for many years. Wonder why the countries that are not involved with Israel and the Middle east dont have the problems we have. I know I dont feel safer having our troops halfway around the globe stoking fires. I would much rather have them protect our homeland and have our administration make more friends than enemies. If that is ignorant than so be it. Guess Jesus was ignorant too for not lashing out at the Romans and people who nailed him to the cross. You can gain alot more from peace than you can from war. Billions of dollars and lives later what have we accomplished with this war? If you agree with war to solve all the problems please stay in the US. A peaceful country like Costa Rica has no use for war loving people.
October 25, 2006 at 6:52 pm #179249maravillaMembermy primary reason for bailing out of the US is that I will not be part of or support the slaughter we are perpetrating in iraq. this was an illegal war, promulgaled on lies andd eceit and greed, and there is no justification for having invaded iraq. in fact, this whole war machine is just too creepy to even think about it. i´m in costa rica now and i´m staying away from the news-propaganda and applaud the ticos for going on strike to protest the TLC and the spread of globalism, which benefits only the big multinationals.

October 25, 2006 at 8:01 pm #179251Ripple33MemberRight On Maravilla, I totally agree with you. Also was very happy to see the Ticos trying to stop TLC. The denial of this agreement is vital to the survival of Costa Rica and its people. I am just afraid that chirozo will persuade the legislative assembly to pass it whether they agree with it or not. Still praying that they can manage to keep the US out of there. Globalization is bad for everyone except the fat cats.
October 26, 2006 at 2:19 pm #179252maravillaMemberi fear that the IMF and the World Bank will put the screws to costa rica by calling the loans if they don´t agree to the TLC. the truly evil forces in our world today are those two entities i just mentioned. just look what they did in Argentina, Ecuador, panama, indonesia, etc. to think that we will be occupying irag for another 5 – 6 years turns my stomach, but then halliburton and all those other ghouls will be raking in the dough while we make sure we get that central asia pipeline in place. i am soooooo happy to be away from america right now. costa rica has its problems, but this recent strike makes me realize that people hear still have cajones to stand up for what they believe in.
October 27, 2006 at 7:36 am #179253Ripple33MemberI think you are correct Maravilla and glad to see there are some others with their eyes open to what is going on. The New World Order is hard at work. And the Rothchilds, Rochefellers and other illuminatis are in the process of establishing total world domination. Establishing a north american state is high on their list (merging of Canada, Mexico and US). The toll road running from Mexico to Canada is the beginning of this process. As you mentioned the Central Asia pipeline is also very high on the list which means more war with more countries being invaded. It truely makes me very happy to see that there are more people who realize what is happening. I just wish more would do their homework and arm themselves with knowledge. The world bank has had its hands in Costa Rica in the past with forcing Costa Rica to have a more open market in exchange for disreguarding some of their debt. These are truely evil people with evil plans. The more of us that realize what is happening, the more chance we have of slowing the process or stopping it.
November 10, 2006 at 12:50 pm #179254jacbanMemberThank “God” Your approach to war was not used when Hitler was around, If everyone had your attitude we would all be speaking German and even Costa rica would be very different. The “american and British war machine” saved the world.
God helps those who help themselves!!!!!!!!!God does not settle religious disputes, God provides use with oppertunities to act and do things ourselves.
November 10, 2006 at 1:08 pm #179255jacbanMemberIs anyone familiar or seen the films clips of when Chainberlain returned from Germany to the thousands of cheering british with a signed treaty – giving Hilter land for peace. After that war mongering Churchill had warned everyone, Hilter must be defeated, there is no peace with Hitler, its his way or no way!
History has a funny way of repeating itself.
November 10, 2006 at 7:20 pm #179256Ripple33MemberI agree Jacban much can be learned from history that is why so many of us fear the US government and their policies. Hitler has been compared to Bush many times for very good reasons. America is becoming more and more a police state with restricted rights. We have fought to take control of the Middle East and other places around the world. We have controlled media (now owned by five corporations). Even the Reichstag fires are very similar to Bush stealing the election. Also much can be learned from the Soviet Unions experience in Afghanistan. We are fighting a losing battle in Iraq and Afghanistan. Imagine how many people would be saved if we pulled out of Vietnam early
November 14, 2006 at 5:17 pm #179257debMemberI am not going to get into the politics, however here in the midwest, (about 2.5 hrs south of Chicago) it seems less & less we have little or no spring-like (70’s) weather. We go practically from the end of winter into hot,hot humid summers. I love having my windows open & that can happen less & less. Plus, the utility rates are more than doubling, plus when you compare virtually no real estate taxes in Costa Rica versus paying almost $4,000. per year (& we are talking about an older, brick ranch) …enough is enough… Now because of much hurrican damage the last few years in other states, my home insurance rates have tripled!!! I know I promised not to speak about politics but I do have to say that with the people in power which we now have (not to mention any names, George) I want to get out before we decide to attack another country. (sorry…couldn’t resist)/
November 14, 2006 at 6:39 pm #179258DavidCMurrayParticipantAside from the (well deserved) sniping at the current administration, Deb, you point out some of the factors that are contributing to the steady decline of the American middle class. For decades in Michigan, people whined about the prospect of being taxed out of their homes, but it turns out that being insured out of your home is a greater likelihood. Utility rates that fewer and fewer can afford, soaring property taxes as more and more of the public burden is shifted to state and local governments, and stagnant or declining real incomes all combine to make it more and more difficult to be middle class. For those of us with options, the Costa Rica option is very attractive.
November 14, 2006 at 8:00 pm #179259aguirrewarMemberReally?
Deb, you live in the midwest and are paying $4,000 in taxes and insurance, move to Florida and pay double that. Last year I paid $1,000 in property taxes and $1,200 in home insurance. Now I am paying $1,400 in property taxes and $3,800 in insurance (that is an %%65 increses in 1 year.
It seems that insurance companies get to pick where they do business. And the Wall Street Journal last month said the insurance companies reported a $6 billion profit.
There is NO middle class anymore in the USA. Lets see what the Democrats which are in power now will do about this.
Bye the way, we sent $400 million related to the awr in Iraq every month. Figure that one out. -
