I second that Aquierrewar, Florida taxes are outragious. The middle class is living poor due to the high cost of everything. Food prices are high, gas prices are high, insurance prices are high, taxes are high, medical costs are high and the list goes on and on. I am paying for a trip to costa rica just to go to the dentist to have several fillings. With the money saved for me and my wife to go to the dentist it will pay for our international airfare. There is a war going on against the middle class and honestly I dont think anything will change with Dems in office. The way they are talking they are just going down the same road as the GOP. Many went from calling for impeachment (including Conyers writing a extensive paper on why Bush should be impeached) to telling the american public that impeachment is off the table. If this administration is not held accountable for their crimes then we are giving the green light for these crooks and crooks in the future to continue violating international law, stomping on the constitution, and lying to the american people. When is enough enough. At least in Costa Rica they put their former leaders in jail when they have done something wrong. Needless to say none of them have committed near the crime that Bush and his band of crooks have done. How many more people have to die and suffer because of these heartless criminals. There will be no change until the people demand it. Just electing the Dems to office is not the answer. Now we must demand that they represent our interests instead of their own. We are still headed down that road to a police state just different faces in the picture. People complain about Iraq (me included) but the real issue should be that our civil rights have been stripped away for this so called war on terror. These are the issues that effect the american people directly yet no one seems to give a damn.

Here is another fact about the high cost cost of medical insurance. My brother will go in Jan next year to CR for dental work. He travels from Virginia and will stay with my wife’s family in San Jose. Why would someone go overseas for dental work? (Because it is cheaper). On Nov 10 in the Tampa Tribune newspaper in Florida was a report “More americans head overseas for health care”. Bangkok, Thailand (bladder) New Delhi, India (hip replacement, heart surgery) Mexico (same day procedures) Canada (medications).
Dodie Gilmore from Oklahoma went to India for a hip replacement that would cost $40,000 in the US. She paid $7,000 in New Delhi.
Approximately 400.000 foreigners go overseas for medical treatment of which 50,000 are AMERICANS, why? (because it is cheaper).
The greatest country in the world, the most advanced, with a huge economy and it’s citizens are starting to go overseas for medical treatment.Do you see where I am going with this?
November 15, 2006 at 1:39 pm #179262DavidCMurrayParticipantRipple33, et al, the problem lies in the fact that the Democrats are beholden to the same big-money, big-power interests that the Republicans are. Being in the pockets of the big movers is how one gets elected regardless of the party affiliation.
You ask when the American people are going to wake up? Well, some of us did on the Wednesday after the 2004 election when Ohio (which had lost over 30,000 well paid manufacturing jobs in the previous four years) was declared for Bush. That was the afternoon that I began researching out-of-country retirement destinations and stumbled upon Costa Rica. My only regret is that I didn’t head this way sooner.
November 15, 2006 at 3:19 pm #179263bradbardMemberLittle will change with the Democrats ESPECIALLY with regards to Israel and the rest of the Middle East which could explode at any time…
Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Cheney and his neoscam friends allowed this Democratic upset to happen to give the illusion that the little people have power when they vote.
Then when the real Presidential elections come along, the vote rigging team goes into action again and we have it even worse next time.
At least we know Bush is an illiterate moron, Cheney on the other hand is an evil shapeshifting bastard.

November 15, 2006 at 5:44 pm #179264aguirrewarMemberAre we for real.
The republican’s had a “thumping” acording to POTUS (Prez of the U.S.) he said this. If the Democrats do nothing, then they get “booted”, and you think they do not know this. What’s good for the geese is good for the gander.
Please people, don’t be pessimistic, we are not ALL idiot’s in the good USA. Being in the pockets of big interest is one thing, but if you get caught it is “curtains for you” and many have been caught in the republican party (the democrats know this). This country sent a message in November, the days of the “Do nothing Congess” ARE OVER. If this new congress does not come with radical ideas to fix a whole lot of problems and fast they are OUT.
Lets wait and see. OK. By the way the TLC for Costa Rica is on hold with a majority of dem’s in both houses, and that is GOOOOD.
PS. From my “READ” here in USA, Karl Rowe and Condi are next in the chooping block. I only wish Cheney was there, but he is hidding and has not said anything to the press.November 15, 2006 at 8:44 pm #179265DavidCMurrayParticipantYou make an interesting point, Brad. With the new electronic voting machines, we don’t really know who won which elections. All we know is who got credit for winning. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if the Republicans had set up this off-year election to favor the Democrats in order to defuse criticism of the 2008 election which they planned to steal?
November 15, 2006 at 9:55 pm #179266Ripple33MemberThe Dems, GOP they are all the same. They all are in the pockets of big business and have the same goal of furthering the goals of the evil empire. As far as the elections go you can bet the house that they are fixed. Why else would they have a system that is so easily hacked and why else would they refuse to have a paper trail. If you have nothing to hide why not have a paper trail. This is just common sense. Our country is being raped by the day by these evil greedy criminals. I do think the people of the US look pretty damn bad to the rest of the world because we do nothing about it. People around the world did not blame the american people for the stolen election but then we reelect Bush. We allow them to advocate torture, violate international law, trash the constitution ect. The world view of american people is changing just on the basis that we dont seem to give a damn what our leaders do. They are not held accountable. Also alot of people in other nations know what happened on 911. They know it was a inside job and cant understand why our people are so ignorant to continue to believe the lies told to us by our notoriously dishonest government. It is time to wake up and speak up. Let the people in congress know that we know what is happening and demand change. It may be too late but basically that is all we have left to try and save this rapidly sinking ship. Most of us are bailing out which is also the best option but you also must consider your family and friends who will have to live in the US and suffer the consequences of a police state and a facist government.
November 16, 2006 at 11:23 am #179267GringoTicoMemberBoy, you guys are something. Even when things go your way you think it’s a conspiracy. Such deep and widespread distrust is indeed an grave indictment of our system of government.
Why on earth is it so hard to give electronic voters a paper receipt? They could verify it’s correct, then deposit it in a ballot box should it be needed in a recount.
But this is a mere detail. Given complete confidence that everyone’s vote will be correctly counted does not increase my confidence in our government one iota. The electorate is ignorant, and until that changes our government will reflect this same ignorance.
