I need to have something notarized by a U.S. notary. the embassy now only does it by appointment. For any service you now have to make an appointment according to their website, so if anyone is a notary please let me know.
A Notary in the U.S. can only practice within the confines of the state which confers that standing, so even if someone here still retains his or her standing as a Notary, they cannot legally notarize a document in Costa Rica.
Your only options are either to make an appointment at the U.S. Embassy (bring cash) or to see if the recipient of the document in the U.S. will accept notarization by a Costa Rican Notary. We found ourselves in a similar situation a while back. The U.S. life insurance company did, in fact, accept notarization by a local Notary.

Best option is to contact the entity that requires the notarization to see if they will accept a Costa Rican notarization if you have not already done so.
Now you have to have an appointment and pay $50. I made the appointment and the notary from the embassy will work. thank you all for your help
i had important bank documents notarized by a CR notary a couple of years ago. Cost C3000. Better than the Embassy, and the stamps were a lot prettier, too. Before you plop down $50, find out if the entity will accept a local notarization. they probably will.
