I have a friend that has dual citizenship that lives in CR. He has both a US & CR passport. His US passport is going to expire within the next year. Does he need to travel back to the US and pay an expedite fee ($400) to get it that same day or can he get this taken care of in CR?
He should be able to take care of this at the embassy in Escazu if there is nothing that would preclude him from doing so.
One thing that might throw a monkey wrench in the works is unresolved issues back in the states… pick your poison… legal or tax issues… either might cause a problem… but barring that… there’s no reason at all that you shouldn’t be able to deal with a renewal at the embassy.
