We are interested in a piece of property near Atenas, however; municipal water is not available. Does anyone know anything about well drilling in Costa Rica: obtaining permits, costs involved, recommendations?

Proceed very cautiously. The reason there aren’t a lot of residential wells in the Central Valley is that accessibility to underground water is limited, the water table can be far down, and drilling in this environment can be very expensive.

I’d check with neighbors who have wells to see how deep they are and with a local well driller to see what his experience in your immediate area has been.

    Hey Dave
Is there anything you don’t know about Costa Rica? How long have your lived there. Here is one. Do you thik we could see a shakeout of Real Estate prices in Costa Rica like what is happening in the US?
Good to see you are still around.

Sure, Stan, there’s plenty I don’t know about Costa Rica, but what I don’t know I make up as I go along. Don’t believe everything you read.

We’ve batted future Costa Rican real estate prices around before in this forum. My take on it is that there will be a sufficient number of Americans, Canadians and Europeans who are not bankrupted by any decline in the North American or European economies, including the real estate markets, that price pressure on desirable Costa Rican real estate will continue unabated. The number of aspiring Costa Rican residents from those origins needn’t be too great to maintain current levels of competition for liveable real estate here whether you’re talking coastal or Central Valley locations, urban or rural.

    ‘Course, that’s just me talking . . .
