I saw Wellington Management’s video at < http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3150466347053303150&q=costa+rica+real+estate >
They are selling their Columbus Heights property saying that buyers will benefit from the new international airport being built in Orotina but the articles on ths site say that nobody is building an airport there. Has that changed?

This message was just e-mail to Wellington Asset Management:
Dear Wellington Asset Managements
Your video says there is a new airport coming into the nearby town of Orotina.
What information do you have on this airport and it’s build out?
Information is appreciated.

Costa Rica’s Invisible New International Airport (??)
Costa Rica’s New International Airport to be Built in the Sierpe Valley – Maybe…
I emailed my friend Sr. Federico Carrillo Zurcher who, at the time was the Costa Rica Minister Of Finance. Federico has been good to me and was kind enough to write the introductions to both of my books: How To Buy Costa Rica Real Estate Without Losing Your Camisa as well as my first book, Costa Rica’s Guide To Making Money Offshore in Bull and Bear Markets.
Apart from being the Minister of Finance at the time, Sr. Federico Carrillo is a trained private pilot, who has been involved in the negotiations regarding the San Jose airport renovations with Alterra Partners and is on the board of the Consejo Tecnico de Aviacion so he has a very good idea of what’s going on this country when it comes to aviation matters.
This is what Federico said to me in his email of 1st September 2005:
“An additional international airport in Costa Rica is not a priority at this time. Our first priority is upgrading the San Jose airport and the Liberia airport. We then plan to develop a new airport in the south west (around Golfito) and after that, if the studies show that the demand is there and the budgets are available, we could look at another airport around the Orotina area – maybe in 15-20 years.” Sr. Federico Carrillo Zurcher, Costa Rica – Ministro de Hacienda.
Now if you really feel comfortable basing your real estate investment decisions on something that the Costa Ricans have been talking about for 30 years which still hasn’t happened.., something that the Costa Rican Minister of Finance says might happen if “the demand is there and the budgets are available” in another 15-20 years – go for it! But please remember!
You would NOT be investing in real estate, you would be speculating!

Even without the highway being completed it is a simple and scenic ride to Jaco, 2 hours at most and usualy takes me 1.5 hours. And based on the number of condos and other developements this area is on fire! All that said, they have followed through on the project, A friend just returned and they are cutting roads etc…sure it’s not for everyone, I know Debbie would never buy from them, Lol!
