I’m looking to settle in an area that’s about 70 degrees year round and *believe* that’s in the following places: Cartego, Heredia, Ciudad Quesada, and Monteverde. I also want to be able to see the mountains even if I can’t be in them — I’d prefer to be in them. In addition, I don’t want to be in a completely rural area — I’d like some nightlife. Dancing is my passion; it would be nice to find someplace with plenty of ballroom dancing, but I can supply my own if necessary.
Can anyone help me out? I need to start planning a visit and it would be helpful if I knew where to look — especially for the places with some activities.
Thank you in advance.

From what I can see, the Costa Ricans are magnificent dancers and dance as if they have been dancing since the womb! Most towns will have places where you’ll be able to dance.
I love the theatre, the opera and the symphony orchestra and for that you have to be near San Jose.

Is there anyplace I can find listings of non-tourist things to do in the various areas? For instance, a listing of clubs, group activities, etc.?
March 20, 2006 at 1:06 pm #175156AndrewKeymasterThe most important Spanish newspaper with the largest circulation by far is after registering you can probably find more ‘arts & entertainment’ news there than anywhere else.
Just in the last month we saw La Boheme, a former London ballet star doing his dance version (without the opera) of Carmen and the Little Theatre Groupd’ Lettice & Lovage’ which was fun …
To be blunt, there’s not enough time in the week for me to attend all the cultural events that we would like to but, having said that, I am not referring to dancing and am not a keen dancer like you.

March 20, 2006 at 1:23 pm #175157MarilynSunshineMemberOne newspaper lists everything in the country! This certainly makes it easy. This sounds like when I was living in Israel in 1965 — the phone book for the whole country, half in English and half in Hebrew (duplicated back to back) was about 6″x 8″ and about a half inch thick. 🙂

Sad — I used to substitute teach high school Spanish — 40 years ago. Now, I’m going to be signing up for a Spanish 1 class. :((((( If you don’t use it, you lose it. The same happened with my French.
