Does anyone ever read the bills they pass anymore? Geez, maybe the kook from Californa, Pelosi, should have introduced this one. You have to pass it to find out what’s in it.
July 6, 2013 at 2:03 pm #174051CancertomnpdxMemberDon’t worry about it, it is all part of the world-wide international gay conspiracy we gay people are involved in these days.
When you sleep at night, we are plotting the downfall of civilization. But in actuality, I think the reason this was slipped through was pretty simple, lots of gay people have lots of cash for their retirement.
Since the straight retirement cash has slowed recently in Costa Rica, why should Ecuador, Argentina and other countries in the region get all the “gay” cash? /quote]
July 6, 2013 at 2:52 pm #174052Lotus123MemberWhy shouldn’t “gay marriage” be legal in a democratic/socialist nation? The government should protect civil rights, not legislate who can marry and who can’t. This is about simple human rights. The only opposition to same sex marriage comes from religious beliefs. Let’s keep the church and state separate. Believe what you wish, worship whom and how you wish. Protect the rights of consenting adults to marry, love and be who they were born to be.
July 6, 2013 at 3:30 pm #174053VictoriaLSTMemberLotus, this may be a “democratic/socialist nation” but it is also a Catholic nation. And I have to question marriage as a “simple human right”. It seems that far too many things are put forward as ‘human rights’. If loving whom you wish a ‘human right’? Then can NAMBLA make a claim? That’s frightening.
July 6, 2013 at 4:59 pm #174054AndrewKeymasterI understand that some gay people are interested in this but don’t you think that this constant, globally coordinated obsession with this topic in all newspapers, magazines and TV is just a huge distraction?
Would you not agree that there are many other, far more important topics we should be discussing?
You know, little things like illegal wars, the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent brown people in dozens of countries, massive poverty, incredible unemployment numbers where (”only 47% of Americans have a full-time job and those who don’t are finding it increasingly out of reach”) and the now more-obvious-than-ever ‘police state’ conditions that people are now suffering in the “land of the free?”
Surely these topics are infinitely more important to both gay people and straight people, no?
July 6, 2013 at 6:00 pm #174055johnnyhMemberI say live and let live as long as it isn’t thrown in front of my face. I disagree with the gay lifestyle, and that’s my prerogative, but that in itself marks me as a homophobe in the gay community.
July 6, 2013 at 7:44 pm #174056spriteMemberAnyone who is NOT gay and is concerned about this topic has been manipulated and distracted away from more pressing matters. (see Scott’s posting)
I am confused as to how gay union issues are of any consequence to straight people who are moving to, or who are living in Costa Rica when there are so many other more pressing issues. If you do not agree with gay union rights, or with gay lifestyles, then avoid forming a civil union with a gay. Problem solved, no issue.

I didn’t think this was about to be gay or not to be gay, that is another issue that needs years and many bottle of rum to figure out. I was mearly pointing out that these moron politicians in the US and now CR don’t read the bills they pass. This is how we get all these BS laws in place under the radar.

Surely these topics are infinitely more important to both gay people and straight people, no?
Newspapers and TV stations don’t publish what they think is important, they publish what people want to read or view. If they only published what was important they would soon go out of business. The National Enquirer outsells Time Magazine. Is that because what the Enquirer prints is more important?
And I hate to break it to you but potato chips outsells spinach too.
US News media has an agenda. They are selling advertising and they are selling government propaganda. The government. Doesn’t want you focusing on issues of importance.
July 7, 2013 at 4:09 pm #174061costaricabillParticipantWow, where you been Sweikert?
After a 9 day hiatus you are back! I was worried maybe you decided to move to another country or blog, or maybe you were in rehab for a “WLCR addiction”.
9 days, man that was enjoyable! In the 9 days previous to your disappearance you had 27 posts, then nothing ….. “cold turkey”, truly an admirable feat, man!
But it looks like you fell off the wagon – 4 post just this morning on only one topic……. what next??

:D:)
He’s been down in the bunker…. seems Chicago had another warm spell and the lead started flying again! Duck and run time in his home town this last week! With as many people actually hit by bullets (was it 30 or so?) you can’t help but wonder how many shots are flying around that don’t hit someone!
So that begs the question… just what the heck is going on in Chicago? General lawlessness? Gang violence? The start of some type of race or social economic civil war?
But I’m off topic…. we’re talking about gay marriage right? Why focus on people (and children) being gunned down in the streets at an alarming rate!

US News media has an agenda.
Of course they do – their agenda is to make as much money as possible. Do you really think Rupert Murdoch is bowing to the demands of the US or any other government?
If the US media are lackeys of the federal government then why are they so quick to pounce on stories such as the NSA monitoring case?
Just remember that up until a month ago the “nuts” out there that were claiming that the US Government was monitoring phone calls and email were dismissed as paranoid conspiracy junkies….. not the case any more.
Face facts…. governments lie all the time. And it’s not always to keep secrets that need to be kept for good reason. Just this week the State Department LIED about John Kerry’s whereabouts repeatedly and only came clean when confronted with overwhelming proof.
I don’t think any of us could justify their actions as in the best interest of the public or necessary to maintain national security. If they’re willing to try to lie to us about something so innocuous as this what do you think the chances are you get the truth 75% of the time?

Sweikert
In you haste to respond sarcastically (which unfortunately is your norm) you failed to notice my happy face avatars I left for you.And as far is my having NOTHING to do, you are wrong on all counts ….. I have a successful wine import and sales business with over 60 restaurant and individual customers, I oversee the marketing for a very large mixed use development and I oversee a 780 acre mixed use development for Wall Street firm and European bank.
So my retirement is far from nothing to do.
