After having a child in Costa Rica and becoming a citizen will my husband or i be able to work or own a business and hire
Costa Ricans to work for us?March 5, 2009 at 11:16 am #195226DavidCMurrayParticipantYou can buy or establish a business and hire Costa Ricans to work in it regardless of your residency status, but you yourself can only work legally under a very limited set of circumstances. I don’t know how having a child here influences that situation.

LOL Funny how having a child has now become the means to an end rather than why our parents had children… but I guess it’s just a sign of the times… and who am I to question it… after all the taxpayers in the US are now paying for the “Octo-Mom” to have kids… 14 in all now… all through invitro with no visible means of support!
Here’s a good one… Denny’s has a new breakfast special named in her honor… it’s called the “Octoslam” and consists of: 14 eggs, no sausage, AND – – – the guy at the next table pays for it!!!!

March 5, 2009 at 1:55 pm #195228sueandchrisMemberThis forum seems to have become a tough place for some of the new members. Perhaps these folks are just moving to Costa Rica because they think it would be a great place to raise a child, not to have an “anchor baby”. When I first joined the Forum, it was just an unsurpassed place for finding answers to all my questions. I felt welcomed and excited to find all the kind people who were so knowledgeable about Costa Rica, its laws and customs. In the last few months, the tone of responses to some of the new inquiries have seemed harsh and unwelcoming. What is going on?

March 5, 2009 at 3:51 pm #195230ImxploringParticipantSueandchris… Sorry if my attempt at humor was taken the wrong way. Sometimes honest advice and opinions have a sting to them… we’ve all been on both ends of that transaction at times I’m sure. Just seems the two questions posted were more concerned with obtaining residency via having a child in CR rather than what would be important for someone looking to relocate to a better place to raise a child… such as asking about medical care, schools, and other social and environmental issues that would be important to someone putting the concerns for a child first. But then again… that’s only my take, yours might be different.
I do hope you at least got a smile out of the new Denny’s menu item! 🙂

March 7, 2009 at 6:05 pm #195232DavidCMurrayParticipantBut on a more serious note . . .
A friend in the U.S. has just told me that her Costa Rican attorney here in Cartago has reported to her that the Legislature has scrapped the pending legislation that would increase the income requirements for rentista- and pensionado-type residents. I’ve read nothing of this online or elsewhere.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
March 7, 2009 at 8:21 pm #195233mixuoneMemberI can’t find any info on it either, but I just emailed someone at Residency in Costa Rica to see if they have heard anything. I hate to get my hopes up yet, but it’s hard not to!
