Interesting and long over do. Think about this though, in the global picture, Costa Rica medical care is still much more expensive than many other countries. Do you think if this becomes popular that patients will seek out the cheaper countries?
2bncrMemberCharlie, I was replying to David’s post. Sorry, I should have made that clear by adressing him by name.
In general, just because i don’t agree with peoples politics or POV, does not mean that I do not respect them or their POV. I know its harder to do, but we can disagree without being disagreeable.
The problem with fourms is you cannot hear any inflection or intonation along with the comment.
2bncrMember“Those with whom we interact will project their experiences with us upon all our fellows be they Americans, Germans or Indonesians. It’s human nature to generalize.”
I don’t. And I am sure developed people don’t. But then you may be generalizing that Ticos are uneducated.
Some people may at times. But I believe these times are changing. It’s hanging-on to these types of assumption that promote generalization with is the seed of mental disturbance.
Assumptions taken for the truth have created many problems. Encouraging this thinking (assuming that one gringo represents all gringos) is out of step with reality. It’s merely something to which you have grown accustomed. Like an old friend who eats all your food and dirties your house, but you still like him around. It’s a codependent relationship; and codependent thinking (for your rightness to exist your assumption must be true; this is codependency).
2bncrMemberDo the same thing you would do in any oher country. It’s all about situational awareness and each sidewalk encounter is site specific. Depends on your mood, the day, the people, the traffic. There is no one rule that applies to all situations.
I for one do not expect forigners in the US to be ambasadors of their country. I think that point of view is passe, gone the way of the monochromatic world view (white). Americans here seem to always find a way to view themselves as special. Always the teacher, and rarely outside of their self importance long enough to learn from the Ticos, who are culturally superior.
2bncrMemberThat’s because the airlines can be fined – but seldom are.
2bncrMemberOf the several people that I have known that have made the trip, the one thing they all have in common was when I asked them if they would do it again, they all replied “No.”
2bncrMemberBeinuppity:
You post hits the mark: one that some people refuse to see. That is the incredible personal development this president has.
That was a welcomed post and something that I really appreciate and had never seen.
Regardless of your politics, has there ever been such an eloquent and intelligent president who speaks from the heart? All the other presidents, except maybe Clinton (a little bit) have never made me feel as if they were looking out for the average guy. President Obama does. Isn’t it funny how the old white man media machine brands him an elitist – the very thing that they represent.
There is some profound insight in that, but not to be explored in this post. God bless president Obama, and it is such a wonderful and refreshing change from the ignorant, pompous leaders of the past.
“We can’t allow the differences between peoples to define the way that we see one another. And that’s why we must pursue a new beginning among people of different faiths and races and religions, one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect.”
That’s pure gold. Wow!
2bncrMemberWell you guys, should he not support his child? Also, if he really wanted to leave CR, he could. Nicas do it all the time.
I agree that it seems to be a catch 22 about how he is supposed to make enough money to pay the child support, but Costa Ricans are faced with the same delima daily. Maybe this is a good lesson to those who are here regarding keeping their pants buttoned or a promo item for visectomies.
2bncrMemberIf you have a child here you are entitled to immeadiate permanent resedency that allows you work at any job, as you have family here. This type of residency is the fastest to recive. Pursue your residency. It may mean having a paternity test, but if you already subject to court order child support, than I would assume the paternity issue has been resolved. So get your residency and start working.

2bncrMemberI agree. And I don’t belive Scott is naieve, but when he writes “there is simply no way” it makes me wonder…
2bncrMemberIts the newspaper Business. They print what sells. Respect and experience no longer has much to do with it. It’s all about money. Journalism is practically dead.
2bncrMemberThe Gold Coast and Lake Arenal plus the Nicoya Peninsula are plenty for 10 days. Sounds like you will be driving a lot. Which books have you read? There is a new book about traveling living and owning in Costa Rica. It’s called Costa Rica Now. It lists a lot of towns and recommends a couple places to stay in each of them. The section on buying and owning property is really good. The part about the culture was interesting too. I found this place through the book and it was great. http://www.hotellunaazul.com It’s in Ostional north of Nosara. Hope that helps.
2bncrMemberDeportation? You brother is a Tico and you are asking these kind of questions. Look if your brother can’t set you straight about owning a bussiness here, than you probally should not put the biz in his name. No one is deported unless they commit a serious crime. Working illegaly in this country is against the law, but it is hardly considerd a serious crime, Just ask many of the illegal Nicas working here. You got to keep this thing in perspective and the sometime narrow views found on internet forms can amplify the topic and cause a loss of perspective.
2bncrMemberGuru – you da man! Awesome info again. Are you a plumber or what?
2bncrMemberTypical… Ha! Welcome to Costa Rica!
