Dear Snott
I believe you spelt the President’s name incorrectly in your subject title. You are welcome. 😉
agarciaMemberMuch ado about nothing. Move on and find a real cause in life. You could find much better ways to spend your time don’t you think?
agarciaMemberTry looking at t4.cr (formerly HostaRica).
November 5, 2012 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Starting a painting firm – is that a valid business idea? #200954agarciaMemberThere are many people who work illegally here – just ask the thousands of Nicaraguans. But remember if you get caught, then you have no one to blame but yourself. That said, I’ve never had good luck with painters. As David points out there are jacks of all trades but I would counter they are masters of none.
Wouldn’t hurt to have a specialist in painting that doesn’t water down the paint (!), knows what a tarp is and when to use it, knows that electrical plates and switches aren’t meant to be painted over and that, yes!, you can tape mouldings and borders as necessary.:D
agarciaMember
OK thanks for that advice about alternate methods of water heating.
It appears though if one wants to stay with on demand then the German built variations are better.

The German built Steibel Eltron heaters can be found at EPA.agarciaMemberHi Peter
I have used both Stiebel Eltron and Thermosonic. The former is better suited for higher temp / higher flow needs. Both have various models depending on the application and are available locally.Cheers
July 30, 2012 at 3:56 am in reply to: Costa Rica is the most popular “eco-friendly” destination #167999agarciaMemberThe “Eco-friendliness” is largely marketing hype. There are areas fairly clean and Eco only due to the lack of people. Tico’s dump trash wherever they can. There is no public wastewater treatment plant in the entire country. Sad sad sad but a reality. Hopefully it can be turned around but it will be a long journey.

Buying into “gated communities” or multi home projects apparently has at least as much risk as buying a single property on your own.
You are so wise sprite. Time to walk the walk and actually move to CR instead of just talking about your vast experience. Pura vida Mae.agarciaMemberThere’s no point being the first to pay anything in this wonderful country. If you thinks expats have this on their mind then so do the Tico’s – and they are masters at avoiding paying too much. Cheers.
agarciaMemberWas curious myself as their sales schtick seemed a bit too slick at times. Sure enough they are having problems.

Centam Partners LLC, a developer of residential property in Costa Rica named Hacienda Matapalo, filed a petition for Chapter 11 protection on Dec. 20 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and consented to dismissal of the bankruptcy on Feb. 3.
The secured lender UTA Capital LLC contended that the Chapter 11 petition was a “classic” case of a filing “in bad faith and without any prospect of reorganization.”
The terms of dismissal prohibit Centam from filing another Chapter 11 petition anywhere within the U.S. for one year.
Centam indirectly owns a 625-acre parcel approved for residential development. The company also holds a concession to develop beachfront property. The property is on the west coast of Costa Rica.
The petition says assets are $10 million while liabilities total $7.5 million, including $6.9 million owing to secured lender UTA.
The case is In re Centam Partners LLC, 11-44590, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Florida (Fort Lauderdale).

agarciaMemberCountries are run more like corporations nowadays. CR would be a prime takeover target by China or maybe Iran. Let the bidding begin.
February 15, 2012 at 3:19 am in reply to: The Crooks at the ‘Federal’ Reserve Will Make Your Cost Of Living Rise Substantially #167062agarciaMemberNobody addressed my comment about past inflation. Oh well. Let’s talk about sprite. Lol
agarciaMember
Never thought of siphoning milk from the container into my coffee with a straw. Thanks for the heads up.
My comment was meant to be humorous, I apologize if it upset you.
Hi Ronny. Are you talking about the 1 litre cartons from Dos Pinos? The little plastic pull tab is a poor design and it spills nearly every single time I try to open a new one, so I just cut the ends with scissors.
Don’t worry about the grumps on the forum, many like to talk about their superiority and reinforce why they left the U.S. I say live and let live.
You should post more of your Costa Rica idiosyncrasies.
I have one that baffles me. Tico’s have no problem queuing for the bank & CCSS etc for hours, but if your car isn’t moving before the green photons hit the back of your retina at the traffic light, they are honking their horn.
Pura Vida!

agarciaMemberCongratulations on your purchase! Hope you enjoy all the country has to offer.
