You are SOO wrong man. There was an agreement. I guess someone else needs to step in and refresh your memory. With all due respect you don’t even live in CR. Neither do I, but I don’t run around on this site like I know it all. I enjoy hearing from those who do live in country. I could debate on the issue you refer to but there’s no point.
clewis, there are some people who simply like to talk and others who do. sprite is one that likes to talk. For over 5 years sprite has talked about moving to Costa Rica but has not. I also recall sprite talking about converting all evil fiat currencies into gold coins and ingots so he/she could buy local produce at the feria and local stores in Costa Rica. We don’t need to ask how that would work as any practical person could see the answer quite clearly – but not sprite. Nope, we are the brain-washed masses of sprite’s overactive imagination. Perhaps Obama care can offer some much needed assistance to sprite?

I just love the kooks that this site attracts. Yes I know, when I come knocking on your door asking for food during the invasion of zombies, I mean vampire revolution, err I mean socio-economic crash, you’ll just pull the trigger. LOL.

But as a part-time comic in all seriousness, do you really need to move HERE sprite?

    Scott,
It is interesting how your sensivity to racial comments was at a low point when you were quoting the jews as benefiting from and promoting wars. I’m glad to see you’ve become more enlightened. https://www.welovecostarica.com/members/cfmbb/messages.cfm?messageid=D734956E-24E8-5ED2-F17EF47510B7AF45#D734956E-24E8-5ED2-F17EF47510B7AF45%5B/quote%5D

Uh-huh! So the bigotry you attribute to Scott, however justified it may be, justifies your own, right? And does the Klan’s hatred of African American people also justify your own? How about Asians? Women? The handicapped? There’s a hate group out there you can ally yourself with for virtually everyone. Lucky you!
David, where is the bigotry that you are attributing to myself? I am reminding Scott of his racist posting while he rightly defends another group.

What connection exists between the U.S. Embassy’s denial of a visa to a Costa Rican and whether someone wears a turban? Please ecplain — in detail.
You’re twisting my words agarcia:

I offered no personal opinion in that thread about the ‘jews as benefiting from and promoting wars,” what I did do was insert quotes from influential Jews who admitted to forcing “Christians into wars”…

    One of the quotes was:

In 1869 at the funeral of Grand Rabbi Simeon Ben-Iudah, Rabbi Reichorn says that: “Thanks to the terrible power of our International Banks, we have forced the Christians into wars without number. Wars have a special value for Jews, since Christian massacre each other and make more room for us Jews. Wars are the Jew’s Harvest, the Jew banks grow fat on Christian wars. Over one hundred million Christians have been swept off the face of the earth by wars, and the end is not yet.“
You quoted racist remarks with no added ‘personal opinion’ so does that mean that you agree or disagree with your posted statement?

    Sorry about the confusion.

I’d really like to know how our property is evaluated for the luxury tax.
Last year the local municipalidad valued our property at something over 70 million colons. I wonder if this is the figure that will be used or if they will come up with some fantasy number out of the air. :?
The luxury tax evaluation is neither based on resale value nor munipical valuation – you can think of it as somewhere in between the two. In their infinite wisdom, the Hacienda came up with their own complicated valuation scheme which of course hampered anyone’s efforts to actually comply with it without spending a small fortune on third parties. I did my own calculation and came up with an amount that was below their limit even though my house would resale for much more (above the luxury tax limit). I did not file this information with them as based on my calculation I wouldn’t have to pay anyways. Again, never provide more information than necessary to this (or any) government. They have said they know who needs to pay but hasn’t and even published a property owner listing to that effect, however they stated the list was based on the intention to build a house that would have likely exceeded the evauation threshold but did not confirm if those buildings were ever built. You see, they really don’t have a clue and have little to back their threats of following up. Now if they were really serious and rolled up their sleeves and walked the neighborhoods, compared munipality records, google/bing maps they could easily find some extra funds – but that requires them to work for it. Fat chance.

Like most new taxes/fees/fines in Costa Rica it never pays to be ahead of the curve and register/pay before things settle down. Luxury tax in point. Those who did pay are now on the hook every year and those who do owe but didn’t pay haven’t had anything happen to them. Avoiding taxes in Costa Rica is a natural pastime. Follow the lead of the locals and don’t get caught up with your cultural instincts to follow the rules as you would in N.A. I’m sure I’ll get flamed for posting this – but whatever.
IL has a long history of telling people where the next hot spot to move to is. i got one newsletter from them that started out with this headline . . . “We told about Costa Rica and what a great deal that was, now we are telling you about Ecuador!” i then wrote them a letter and complained that their “promotion of these countries does nothing but attract people who shouldn’t be living in them, and after they come the prices soar, the fabric of society changes, and then they leave, leaving the rest of us with the mess that was created by all the hype! With your promotion of Ecuador, i predict it will be overrun with gringos and not a very livable place in 5 years — just like costa rica!”

I still own property in Baja but i wouldn’t live there, and my friends who DO live there travel with armed bodyguards! when i first started going there in the early 90’s it was a sleepy little fishing/artist town, then the LA Times touted it as the next Carmel, Calif and that was the end of that place! i used to go there by myself, then drive up and down the coasts between San Jose del Cabo, La Paz and Todos Santos. i never had a worry or care about driving those desolate roads alone. now i would likely be kidnapped, robbed, or murdered. i love mexico and it would be my first choice of where to live if it hadn’t been destroyed by narcos, rich gringos who support the narcos, and the rampant corruption promoted by the rich gringos. in the early 90’s there was no crime there, people left their houses unlocked, cars unlocked, and while it was still dangerous to travel at night — not because of the crime but because of the black cows that camped out on the roadway that had no lights — generally there wasn’t much to be afraid of. one of my dear friends was kidnapped and held for $1M ransom, but then he was one of the richest people in the baja and a prime target. the rest of us could just go about our business without any worries. as soon as the rich gringos moved in, the crime soon followed, along with the drugs. so there you go — IL really doesn’t have a handle on some of these things, but if any of you want to move to baja mexico, i have a lovely lot i will sell you. . . cheap!!

All of the above also applies to the Yucatan where i lived in the 80’s. i’m glad i knew that beautiful place before it became the playground for the rich and decadent, because now it has all the same problems as the rest of mexico. sad. very very sad.
(and if any of you are going to rant about discrimination and the hate in my heart, save your breath!)
Trisha,
Does your rich baja friend know of the contempt and animosity you hold against him/her just because they have money and that you blame their kind for destroying both Mexico and Costa Rica along with any future countries you have had some experience? From your comments, you own your own home with no debt, have properties in other countries and have monthly expenses that are more than double the national wage in Costa Rica. And you don’t appear to work and can spend a large part of your time on Internet forums From the Tico perspective you ARE rich. I think you are tilting at windmills and may find that the enemy you are seeking is within yourself.

Since you live in the area why not ask the municipality? The last building I saw removed was Steve and Lisa’s and that was done after a court fight. It wasn’t bulldozed.

    your right on point 🙂

good to see some level headed non emotional observations going on.

    instead of

can’t we all just get along mentality :D
You are both wrong. You have so much hate in your hearts you have to vent constantly to the rest of us. Blaming it on your “observations” is a cop out. The fact is people are tired of your constant rants and hatred. That is what GEEGEE was pointing out. You were kindly asked to take a break during the Holiday season, but you can’t even do that. There are people here that have tired of your endless radical diatribe. You see what you want to see in your “observations”. Just for a week try to give it a break. Find a little peace in your hearts.
AMEN to that clewis.
