15,000 you say??

that is the # of legal US citizens that live in CR with their residency and own property

30,000 more as perpetual residents as some come and GO and they just rent and are not counted

now; where do I fall in this statistic, I am a US citizen with property in CR but visit 30-45 days out of each year

I figure the average age of the people that participate in WE LOVE COSTA RICA is between 45 and 55

maybe by a ratio of 60%

and if 2 out of 3 people moving to CR returns to the USA then that # is defining the LOSS in this forum

I have 3 children and the oldest was born in CR and came to the USA 5 years ago

based on some #’s I read in La Nacion, 335,000 ticos have left CR in the last 3 years

have to find out how many US citizens are living in CR but it is not close to 12,000

    any ideas???

Amazing that this conversation has been around for AGES in this forum.

My wifes family comes every 3-4 months and they buy the same things, SMALL items, over and over again and again

Clothes, Shoes, Watches, Laptops, Plasma TV’s, Phones, kitchen appliances (rice makers, pressure cooker, can opener, linen, towels etc.. and never a big item like a fridge, stove, furniture.

I will go the way the Ticos go when I buy anything and save $$$$.

I send in a 45″ x 45″ x 45″ cardbox small items for $145.00 every 2 months and that includes bathroom fixtures, electric outlets, electric breaker box, a hammer, drill, drill bits and other small tools.

WAIT A MINUTE, Iran is a threat and they have to be stopped at all costs

I wonder how much it will cost the USA if they get involved in this mess

I would be in your best interest to immerse yourself in a Spanish conversation class before coming to Costa Rica. You can think of this as learning to swim. First you learn how to float then learn to doggie swim and the rest is history.

Must warn you that at first your Spanish will sound GARBLED and sometimes funny but the Ticos will not laugh at you, they will concentrate to figure out what you say.

There is a difference between the Gringo and the Tourist for Ticos’. The Gringo is the one that wants to live in Costa Rica and never tries to learn their language and culture; the Tourist is more palatable to the Tico since he makes an effort to communicate in Spanish.

    Hope this helps.

Interesting thread from people that don’t live in the USA and hold a PASSPORT from that country.

You “DO NOT” have to tell me what is wrong with my Country, Supreme Court, Congress, Senate.

I decided to stay and FIGHT the system and posponed my retirement by 6 months, HEY!!! wait a minute, I can retire in 6 months, why add 6 more months to this AGONY.

because of my GRANDCHILDREN. Lived a good life and I want this new generation to live the same be that MY SON or yours, is does not matter.

CR is #144 under this chart

    https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2187rank.html

    $ -1,969,000,000, 2011 est

lots of negative numbers in there but what does this really mean??

some national debt is OK but up to a point

moving to CR from the USA might help you up to a point in your standard of living

but some cities in the USA are bankrupt and they are cutting on Police, Teachers, Firefighters and City workers besides on Pension Plans

will your Social Security check be protected for the next 10 years??? I DON”T THINK SO!!!

used to be 20 years in the Military (USA) and you fot 50% in retirement, now they are thinking of changing the rule to 50% when you reach 62 years

the Federal workforce has not seen an increase in pay for the last 2 years

the US Post Office wants to reduce their workforce from 480,000 to 360,000 in the next 5 years

Detroit auto workers where reduced by 250,000 and so was their pension plans

The state of Florida does not have the right amount of funds in it’s retirement POT to pay the same amount in 10 more years

and the same will happen in CR if they don’t control their spending

CASH is KING but what type of cash, dollars, Euros, Gold, Oil investments ($3.05) a gallon today in Florida from $3.71

Yesterday I was worth about $1,500,000.00 and today close to $750,000.00

and I still live with $2,500.00 a month

present value is better than Future value
