AndrewKeymaster
Scott is a Buddhist? I thought he was Scottish? :-)
I’m a Scottish/Anarchist/Tico/Buddhist 🙄
October 30, 2014 at 3:47 pm in reply to: Business Week Story Today on Costa Rica & Tax Evasion #166512AndrewKeymasterDysfuncionality, ineptitude, inefficiency, laziness and greed are all part of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the employees in every single government office I have ever visited here in Costa Rica and in most other countries I have lived in…
Every professional Tico I know has a very similar attitude which goes something along the lines of:
“Why on earth should I pay a dime of my hard-earned money to a government that habitually wastes hundreds of millions of dollars on screwed up highway contracts and who continually reward themselves with OBSCENE government salaries and pensions?”
It’s difficult to argue with that kind of thinking…
And people wonder why I am an anarchist!

AndrewKeymaster
Scott, For some reason I can not Copy and paste the article on this computer but google Limon airport expansion, this is being proposed by the Mel group and being studied by the Costa Rican government as part of an overall Limon infrastructure upgrade plan.
Thanks Chet: I’m sure the new “international airport” on the Caribbean side will happen some time within the next 75 years!
AndrewKeymasterAs you have pointed out Chet, Michael is not a journalist, he’s a Realtor and like you, he’s entitled to his opinion.
I would personally agree with you that he doesn’t appreciate the area in the same way that we obviously do but I don’t change people’s opinions before we publish their articles.
Scott
PS. And where on earth did you get the idea that they are considering building an “international airport” to serve the Caribbean?
AndrewKeymaster… and thank you for participating.
I help purely out of selfish reasons, after all, you might become my neighbour one day. 😀

AndrewKeymasterThis Bloomberg video report is in Spanish..
Costa Rica President Luis Guillermo Solis talks about the country’s tax plan and fiscal budget. Solis speaks with El Financiero-Bloomberg Television’s Karla Palomo in New York.

AndrewKeymasterSorry! But apart from getting a Police Report (which really is quick and painless) as far as I know, there are no “reasonable” procedures here.
A few years ago friends of ours – a married couple both of whom were diplomats who worked full-time for two different embassies – (in other words you couldn’t find a more ‘respectable’ couple) tried adopting here and gave up after 2 years, it is far from “reasonable.”
I honestly don’t know if you have to be a Costa Rica resident but I don’t think so…
Having said that, please don’t take my word for it, everything could have changed and it could be a much smoother process now.
Good luck and please let us know how you get on …

AndrewKeymasterMy wife is my #1 Realtor, her son and his wife also work with us as Realtors so we must monitor the market quite closely.
You can find a wider range of more affordable properties on my Spanish website at CasaDeLujo.com – I simply don’t have the time to translate them and put them on WeLoveCostaRica.com
IMHO the most affordable apartments can be found at CONCASA. The project is not everyone’s cup of tea but nobody can compete in that price range… See this link for example properties in CONCASA
My wife and I live in Santa Ana in the Avalon Country Club project which you can see here.
You can see our apartment here.
You can see the best pre-construction deal for single storey homes in our area here. We know the developer very well and since it’s such a great value, we are buying one ourselves as an investment. Tis project should be finished by June 2015

AndrewKeymasterYou can see the San José temperature and rainfall here.
I have lived in and around San José, Escazu and Santa Ana for 14 years now and apart from having my rocking chair stolen from my garden in Escazu a few years ago I have had zero problems…
There are many communities in this area where you will feel very safe however, this is not a cheap area so be prepared…

AndrewKeymasterI have indeed received a letter from the immigration attorney confirming that Ryan will have his residency confirmed in the very near future.
AndrewKeymaster
I am not an immigration lawyer, but does this mean that he has spent 9 wonderful years residing and brokering in Costa Rica as a “tourist?” Or will his lawyers letter state that he is currenlty able to legally work in Costa Rica while his application is being processed? Confused.
Sorry to hear that you are “confused” and we hope to clarify this next week when I hear from Ryan’s immigration attorney…
I do more due diligence on projects and on people featured on my website than any other website I know of however, this is a free website and I certainly don’t have the time to check into what people have been doing every single year they have lived here…
If you have a personal problem with Ryan – and it certainly sounds like you do – and wish to email me the details in private feel free to do so …
Scott
AndrewKeymasterAs an update: I have been assured by Ryan’s immigration attorney that I should receive a letter from her regarding the status of his inversionista residency application next week…
AndrewKeymasterRyan Tuttle has been recommended to me by a number of satisfied real estate investors in the Samara area.
It was after he was recommended to me by the owners of the Coldwell Banker franchise in Costa Rica that I began personally checking his customer references which are coming back very favourably.
So I am certainly comfortable with Ryan’s business experience and his customers seem to be very happy however, after reading these comments I will be re-confirming his exact legal status.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

August 30, 2014 at 7:47 pm in reply to: Americans and Ticos traveling for short stays in Cuba…What is required? #160718AndrewKeymasterThe information or ‘warning’ on the State Department website is pretty clear….
It does NOT say “it is illegal to travel to Cuba, FROM U.S. soil” – it states quite clearly that:
“Tourist travel to Cuba is prohibited under U.S. law for U.S. citizens and others under U.S. jurisdiction.”
