WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterYou HAVE TO use an intermediary bank if you are wiring money… All US dollars MUST go through an intermediary bank before they get to their non-US destination.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterThere is CableTica and Amnet which offer comparable services and the DSL which is available from ICE/RACSA.
I have used Amnet which I was delighted with and am now using CableTica because Amnet does not provide service in my new home – I am also very happy with CableTica.
There are posts in this forum and articles on the topis if you search for “Amnet” or “CableTica” or “DSL” in BOTH the forum as well as the articles, you’ll find more information.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterEven “if” our home in Costa Rica was legitimately appraised at $370,000 since property taxes here are only .25% then you would pay no more than $925 per year.
Since homes rarely pay property taxes based on the real value of the home and pay instead on the recorded value then $150 would probably be more like it…
Quite a science eh? 🙂

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterMany of our most recent VIP Members are from Florida where some are fleeing from the highest property insurance rates in the USA.
According to a recent New York Times article; “… owners of 1,500-square-foot homes there were typically seeing premiums double to $10,000 or more for wind-storm insurance.
They are facing a total home insurance cost of more than $13,000 a year on average, Ms. Johnston said, or about US$1,100 per month.”
According to David Garrett of Garrett Insurance in San Jose, Costa Rica if you owned the same home here, your ‘Home, Fire & Natural Disaster for the exact same sized home would cost only US$216 per year including tax!

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterAnd another option is to stop watching TV altogether, I have dear friends who simply didn’t buy a TV when they moved here seven years ago when their kids previously were TV fiends and they were literally transformed.

WeLoveCostaRica.comPS. And no! I haven’t deliberately watched TV for about ten years although we don’t rent movies once or twice per month.
AndrewKeymasterYou’re welcome. Most of the ‘Venezolano’ clients that we have are A: Successful B: Wealthy and C: Already have a big percentage of their $$ outside of their country so are keeping a very low profile for obvious reasons so I doubt very much that they would ‘expose’ themselves to you or anyone else in a public forum.
Good luck.
If you’re only half as happy living here as I am, you’ll still be delighted.

AndrewKeymasterI can’t think of anyone whom I know in a similar situation and would encourage you to get professional advice. Having said that, seeing how family oriented the Ticos are, I also cannot imagine there being a situation where they would separate the child from the parents even if the ‘child’ was 18 years old.

They will introduce you to people who will sell you real estate, do your residency applications for you etc.
Make sure that you get your investment advice from people who are qualified to give investment advice.
