My emails to you are being returned for some reason. Don’t know if you received my email asking for your article and photos in a different format? I would like to use it ….

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterOn the old WeLoveCostaRica.com website, before we switched over to the new system in January 2006, we had a number of extremely negative comments about World Wide Land Investments so this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.
I also have a good Realtor friend on the Caribbean who has on numerous occasions proven to people who were visiting his area that he personally owned the land that the visitors thought they were buying or, though that they already owned through WLI.
As usual, the time between us first noticing a group with ‘questionable’ business practices and the time when they are effectively shut down can be years, during that period hundreds if not thousands of people may have sent money which they will probably never see again.
Having said that, please note that this man Jaime Ligator – a US citizen – has been arrested on another type of fraud and there doesn’t appear to be any news about them investigating the real estate side of things so don’t be surprised if this continues.
This is why WeLoveCostaRica.com only recommends experienced developers with proven track record of delivering quality real estate in Costa Rica and trusted and experienced real estate sales professionals in Costa Rica.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymaster“Patience is a virtue” is an expression that are all familiar with but yes! It has a very much more significant meaning living in Costa Rica…
I moving house (finished today) and had to change the cable internet company as my existing provider did not provide their servicdes in the new area.
Being the paranoid that I am (just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get me…) I confirmed with both Amnet (cable TV/internet) and RACSA (telephone) that my service was good until I sent them a fax authorizing them to terminate the service – Sure they said! No problem.
Two days later they disconnected me… And after four hours of telephone calls between me, my girlfriend, Amnet and RACSA we were re-connected. We still do not know exactly why they disconnected me.
I am in front of this comnputer for a mninimum of ten hours per day – my company independently contracts with three full-time employees and pays half a dozen other people for a variety of services so being online is important.
A GREAT DEAL OF PATIENCE IS INDEED A VIRTUE!
Having said that… I find that once all the organizational stuff has been done, you’re pretty much left alone to live and enjoy life. I’ve had two cold calls in seven years – I receive NO JUNK MAIL at all and have never felt more free and content than I do now …

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterYou just gotta’ take a look at the video interview with our friend George Lundquist at
George offers a tour for the “non-rich” and we’ve heard great things about it …
Please let us know how you get on …

Founder – WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterYou have to be very careful with some people who have investmnent funds that they call REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts). The majority of them are not legal REITS and are soliciting investments ILLEGALLY both here and more importantly in the USA where the SEC will likely hang them if discovered.
When people advertise or speak of anything where people are “investing” they automatically put themselves under the watchful eye of both the SEC “if” they are involving US citizens and the SUGEVAL (local SEC equivalent) if they are located here.
Of course many people with their “investment programs – have somehow managed to get away with this and have made fortunes (ILLEGALLY) but Murphy’s Law states that if you plan on doing the ‘right thing’ – you’ll somehow get shut down and face significant legal – possibly lifelong – problems in doing so…
Setting up your own fund? You’re looking at start up costs of $50K-$100K plus significant ongoing management, legal, maintenenace and reporting fees.
When you first mentioned this I knew that this would come up again.
What’s the solution for you and your customers who would like to do the ‘right thing?’
I honestly do not know. Do we have US attorneys out there that could tel us if perhaps there is a US ‘trust’ or perhaps ‘charitable trust’ structure that might work?

Please forgive me! I am launching two new products, trying to update my book, answering 200-300 emails per day and finalizing the construction of a new home and office which we will be moving into this weekend so I’ve had my hands full this week/month/year/decade.
If you do not hear back from me by Wednesday next week, PLEASE scream at me…

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterI believe there is a drastic shortage of people in your profession here but it’s not easy for you to work here.
You can see the general requirements for an “anestesista” at “Artículo 13°- Anestesiología: Requisitos específicos: a) Dos años de residencia y adiestramiento académico en Anestesiología en Hospital Clase A, Universitario.”
You would fall under the Colegio de Medicos y Cirujanos
This is all assuming that you speak fluent Spanish and would be happy to work for Costa Rica wages which I doubt very much would be more than about $1,500 per month.
Anesthetists are not mentioned but you can get an idea of the minimum salaries in Costa Rica at
Best wishes

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterI don’t recall mentioning anything specific but whenever you have a community that goes through significant growth, that ‘sense of community’ tends to dissipate dramatically.
So in years gone by when all the neighbors knew each other and watched out for each other, that has changed and some neighbors have never even met the people that live next door – who may only visit for six weeks in the year – so why should they care of someone breaks in?
When I first moved to New York City, I introduced myself to the next door neighbors who obviously thought I was really strange in doing so but I was being friendly and thinking that if they see something strange or somebody strange lurking about, just maybe they’ll help.
Like other fast growing areas, there have been some infrastructure problems as development outpaces the municipality’s ability to keep up but although I have not visited for over a year, I hear they have made some improvements.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterMethinks you could have used less toxic terms in your posting ‘diego’ – this is a Discussion Forum and not a place where we deliberately attack each other although that occasionally does occur.
I would not dare to speak for Tao but can assure you that she does indeed have the area’s best interests at heart when she writes of these things and I can also assure you that not only does she only want to work with “benevolent buyers,” if you were a big developer that only wanted to “rake in as much” as you could, she would not even return your email.
Lastly, like most professional real estate people she fully expects and indeed deserves a sales commission if she helps someone find the perfect property for them….

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterThere are indeed set fees for many legal services provided by Costa Rican attorneys especially when it comes to real estate and estate planning but if I am not mistaken, there are no set fees for residency applications.
Please again remember that this is an awfully time consuming job for an attorney and because of that, many attorneys have stopped accepting this kind of business altogether.
On a side note, apart from Nidia Cordero (see her article at ), I don’t believe any of the attorneys we recommend on this site handle residencies at all although their colleagues may do so…

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterWe must remember that there are two parts to this equation. 1. The client and 2. The attorney.
Not all attorneys want to do business with every potential client that walks through their door and after they have heard your story, perhaps they have all decided that this is not the kind of business that they want to handle.
I know many attorneys that will happily sit down with a new client to find out what they want and then decide that it’s too much work for too little reward and I understand that perfectly.
Please note that you will rarely find a Costa Rican attorney that says he doesn’t want to do business with you, if he or she does not want to do business with you they will either quote you an outrageous fee or give you answers that you don’t want to hear.
