WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterI had a heated discussion with an investment client about this recently…
He is of the opinion that publicly traded companies should be loyal ONLY to their sherholders and to hell with everything else. Fire everyone! Move all their operations offshore to China, India and the Philippines – that’s OK as long as the shareholders make more money …
My argument was more along the lines of yes! It’s great to work hard for your shareholders but don’t we have some responsibility to the coommunities in which we do business? Should we not consider the future of those communities? The environment in which we do business? The future of the children of those shareholders perhaps? The future of the country? The future of our intellectual capital?
Capitalism can be a good thing but capitalism on steroids with a manic obsession for making money at any cost and to hell with everything else will in the end bring about the end of this ‘democracy.’

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterHa! Thanks for your feedback Stan and yes! This idea has been suggested to me previously by one of my investment clients and is something we’ve been evaluating so while I have your attention, please allow me to ask your opinion.
I was thinking of offering a ‘premium’ type service for VIP **Gold** Members (??) on the site for a monthly fee of say $149 where this expert, insider information about the most promising ‘pre-construction’ type projects would be released to them BEFORE published the information on the site for free.
After our VIP Gold Members have been given a specific period of time to evaluate our recommended developer’s new project and express their interest, only then would I release this ‘Buy’ recommendation to the rest of our 7,000+ readers.
We may only be able to feature 4-6 of these a year but my client said to me that the prospect of making an extra $100K per year is worth a monthly fee that would only add up to $1,788 per year.
What do you think?

WeLoveCostaRica.comPS. Just to make sure we set the record straight, I have lived in Costa Rica for seven years but have been a full time, professional (Wall Street trained) investment advisor for over 20 years.
AndrewKeymasterThank you Alfred for your honest and I ‘think’ very accurate insights, would you please consider writing an article for the site based on this to help our other VIP Members to understand those little differences?

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterI am not a construction expert but would assume that the type of foundation would very much depend on the terrain and the kind of home being built no?
But if both methods are acceptable then you as the person putting up the money should certainly have a big part in making the decision about what to use, no?
Do you know what sort of cost difference there is?

Hi Scott. This video makes me proud of what my Costa Rica has to offer to so many kinds of people. I always have said that we as Ticos don’t appreciate the beauty of our country. The video does a good job of showing what Costa Rica can offer to a tourist, and it seems to cater to the young crowd. Nothing wrong with that, but it could also show more activities for retires and senior citizens. I had problems with the sound, I had to turn it down very low in order to hear your narrating voice. Over all, nice video. Buena suerte!@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Scott,Overall, well done. As I believe it was posted already if you could identify what is being shown…such as the CRUISE PORTS of PUNTARENAS or the LOVELY beaches of Manuel Antonio vs. the FIXED TITLE – LOVE FROM WE LOVE Costa Rica…on the SCREEN . Also, if there is a way to take the “WINDY BEACH” scene off? I like the umbrella look but flapping in the wind is not that enticing (observation). I also like the comment on getting (from a U.S. perspective mind you) either a deep sea fishing shot in (with all the NEW UP AND COMING marinas soon be done) OR a quick shot of golf (although not many choices today). Look forward to someday meeting you with all the work you put into this video and the site it is impressive. Any comment on rumors that DISNEY may come down? If they do, watch out for that video !

AndrewKeymasterGreat feedback – thank you very much indeed.
We are also in the middle of doing a promotional video for one of our developer friends so your constructive criticism is just terrific and helps me a lot.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterI believe President Oscar Arias has made his direction crystal clear and that is nowhere near down the same path as Argentina. Confidence in Costa Rica is high, new real estate construction was up over 70% in 2006 in comparison with 2005 and new construction starts in Jan/Feb are already up 20% over 2006
Venezuela (with 882,050 sq km of land) is more than seventeen times larger than Costa Rica (with 50,660 sq km of land) and the population of Venezuela (25,730,435 July 2006) is six times larger than Costa Rica (4,075,261 July 2006).
However, Costa Rica’s GDP per capita is $12,000 (2006) which is 74% more than the GDP per capita of Venezuela which is $6,900 (2006)
According to the CIA country reports, people in Costa Rica live longer than the people in Venezuela.
The CIA also reports that the percentage of the population living below the poverty line in Venezuela is 37.9%, in Costa Rica it is only 18% and the infant mortality rate in Venezuela is 122% higher than in Costa Rica.
What Does This All Mean? Compared to Venezuela, the new born babies of Costa Rica have a much better chance of surviving and, adult Costa Ricans live longer, healthier, richer and happier lives.
There certainly is possible fallout from more increased poverty in Nicaragua but I believe that will have a minimal impact on Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is one of the most politically stable countries in all of Central & Latin America and people like WalMart don’t commit $50,000,000 this year alone to Costa Rica without believing in it’s stability.

WeLOveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterNew home construction in 2006 was about 70% higher than the year before and this year it’s already up 20% in January/February over 2006.
So if you are both legally entitled to work and can speak Spanish (???) the possibilities are limitless.
However, to make a decent living like anywhere else, you would best starting your own ‘consulting’ company.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterCONGRATULATIONS!
I remember son’s birth in a hospital in Westchester County, New York which cost just under $10,000 and that was in 1990. My daughter’s a few years later was much more so $2,500 today sounds like a helluva’ deal to me.
