There are improvements coming ‘algun dia’ as you can see from the La Nacion airport article at …

When these improvements will be completed is anybody’s guess…

POSTED IN THE WRONG PLACE AND REPOSTED HERE BY SCOTT

The only thing that I can add is that I am aware of the club house for the Costa Esterillos Development. The property next to mine (RocaMar Villas) was recently sold for the purpose of being their clubhouse. We purchsed in this area because it was quiet, conveniently located and the nicest beach we have ever seen. Guess we’ll be heading south before too long.

    Hello,
I saw that in your posting, you would be willing to send any pictures you have of the Costa Developments (Montana, Esterillios, Reserva) I have put a deposit on properties in Reserva and would be interested in seeing what progress they have done. I am planning to visit in March but would like a preview on what to expect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You are leaving out some pretty crucial facts…

That “poor little English lad” was not a “partner” at all, he was the Chief Executive Officer – an employee – of BetOnSports which was a London Stock Exchange company.

This is not a bunch of kids working out of a small storage room, this was a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange.

Sounds like this could have been planned just a little more thoroughly dkimball141?

Are you a legal resident of Costa Rica?
Do you own the land in your name or in a corporate name?
Is there power and water connection already on the land?

Sorry to ask what maybe a stupid question but before you try and telephone the Costa Rican utilities – which would be an exercize in futility – do you speak fluent Spanish?

Scott and I have posted on this topic, but I’d like to hear other comments, as I am going to be on the Central Pacific Coast in two weeks looking at properties, and I’d like to hear others’ experiences with Costa Developers. I received some private emails reporting mixed results with Costa. Their project at Costa Esterillos may be a quality property, but I have become extremely wary of any developers using sales organizations out of Florida. The process seems fraught with potential for fraud. I noted from another posting that some of the principals may have had enforcement problems in the US. I’m coming to Costa Rica to get away from high pressure and charlatans, and I don’t need to deal with same from good ol’ USA. If I wanted that, I could stay in California and deal with it here. That’s one reason why I’m moving to Costa Rica, to find reputable people who live up to their word without 6 lawyers and many pages of legaleze. I suspect I won’t find that with Costa Developers. At least, my preliminary experience with them was miserable and reminds me why I don’t want to do business with pushy salesmen from Florida. I hope others are very careful with them, as well.

I think in the long run you will be best served by sticking with the facts. Meaning don’t let (any) pushy salesmen deter you from a purchase that otherwise makes sense. As far as leaving all your troubles behind in Cali I don’t know. Costa Rica is fraught with petty aggravations and schemers. If you are looking for land in a gated community in the central pacific most are run by at least one Gringo. And unless you are going to be there full time a gated complex is probably a good idea or better yet go with one of the Condos Scott listed on this site. Once you are are down there you will be able to get a much better picture of what is going on. You will see signs up for many projects, also get a broker(perhaps from this site) to show you around as there is a lot of land for sale! Have fun, don’t let anyone aggravate you before you even hit the ground and if you are in Playa Hermosa/Jaco go to Jungle surf for the best fish you may ever eat!

Please show us some figures that would back-up your statement that “there is a big slowdown in real estate, espcially here in Costa Rica.”

Because the official construction numbers will NOT – at all – help you, quite the contrary.

La Nacion 29 January 2007 had an article about the 46.16% increase in the amount of money received by municipalities (nationwide) and the amount invested in new construction with Santa Cruz showing an 197% increase and another area we know well – Santa Ana – showing a 87.10% over 2005

Does a 46.16% nationwide increase sound like a “slowdown” to you? It doesn’t to me…

I have heard other people say on this forum that ‘real estate prices are coming down’. That may be the case in some areas (I am not familiar with them) and some of these people don’t actually live here so I don’t know where they are getting their ‘facts’ from …

However, out of all the developers (experienced developer with proven experience of building quality homes in Costa Rica) that we recommend on this site, I do NOT know even one who is lowering their prices but, I do know that the majority of them are raising their prices.

this is my first time looking at this. i purchased a villa in esterillos oeste. we took the time to really check it and meet with the concession owners. good lawyers and good r.e. agents with knowlege of the area are vital. what part of Esterillos is everyone talking about

Bad day to talk to me about maids… Fired one today. This one was bloody awful at everything.

I have had a couple of great maids here but one got pregnant (nothing to do with me) and the other had problems with her daughter and had to stop working to take care of her.

Vinegar & water is also great mix to remove dog stains/odor from floors…

The ‘Maids’ topic is on my ‘Articles To Do’ list.

    US$15,000,000.00 Isn’t that a LOT of money?

Does anybody know why there has not been more activity?

One of my pet peeves about MultiPlaza in Escazu is the floor tiles. I can NOT believe that they have used the tiles they do because they are so incredibly slippery when wet and yes! It does rain from time to time here.

For older folks, one fall on that floor and you’re toast which may be why you never see old folks in there when it’s raining.

I can only assume that the exiting tiles are A: Reasonably priced and B: Easy to clean because they are certainly not safe to walk on when wet.

This is not my area of expertize ‘slack glass’ but I can’t imagine that finding oxygen tanks would be a difficult thing to track down…

You can find propane tanks everywhere (most supermarkets and many ‘pulperias’) because so many people cook with gas.

And we are talking about THOUSANDS of well above average paying jobs here too which is BIG number for such a small country.

Let’s hope that bradbard is not right with his prediction about the SuperBowl because that will be the straw that breaks the camels back.
