I did see it and am delighted to know that my ‘perception’ was correct but, now I’m a little sad in thinking that perhaps I have forgotten more English than I thought….
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

AndrewKeymasterI won’t “take back” anything but thanks for the suggestion.
I believe “be nice, no profanity and no name calling” is mentioned at the top of this page and we’re going to maintain that tone.

Calling Costa Rica a “piece of crap” and telling us the so many people can lead “comfortable and useless lives in Costa Rica” is not particularly enlightening.
You either contribute to this forum in a constructive fashion or, we delete your registration and you can start your own “I hate Costa Rica’ website and forum!
Your choice

WeLoveCostaRica.comPS. The number of people renouncing US citizenship is easy to find, you will NOT find the information about the number of people who have lived here in Costa Rica and then returned, that data doesn’t exist and that was my point.
AndrewKeymasterWe’ll leave the kindergarten name calling out of the forum please…
Please show us a respectable source for your information about “2 years is usually all people can take of that country.”
Unlike the USA, the actions of the Costa Rican government are not threatening the very survival of the human species.

WeLoveCostaRica.comPS. You would be surprised at how many former Americans I have met in my capacity as a professional international wealth management advisor (living in Cayman, Costa Rica and Switzerland) who have indeed renounced their citizenship. Just for the record, I do NOT work with US citizens
AndrewKeymasterBut dwaynedixon, didn’t your friend who “lives near Santa Ana in a condo” know that his builder would be building morte units? Or are you saying that it’s the same units …?

AndrewKeymasterI don’t think too many real estate agents will even return your phone call or reply to your emails unless you offer them the minimum 5% and depending on your location – if it’s a hard to get to location – they may ask for 10%.
Most successful real estate agents in Costa Rica – the ones you WANT to do deal with – have more business than they can handle so, I would encourage you to be flexible ‘if’ you want to sell your land.
As an example of that success, according to the National Association of Realtors in an April 2006 study, the typical Realtor in the USA is a 52 year old female who has been in the business for nine years and has a gross personal income of $62,300 …
I starting recommending a woman real estate agent (new to real estate sales but very successful in business and had built her own homes in a couple of countries) in May 2006 and she’s already earned over $80,000 in her first nine months in the business helping our VIP Members find their perfect home in Costa Rica.
You can live VERY well in Costa Rica on that kind of money …

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterAs far as Brits and other Europeans are concerned – the one thing that most Americans seem to forget is that the value of the US$ has declined dramatically in value against the pound and the Euro so US$ real estate looks very cheap.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterLet’s turn this into a bit more of a ‘discussion’ while we are here…
If you wish to contact curlyonecurlytwo – by all means do but here’s something I would love to hear more about…
How easy or difficult has it been for you – our VIP Members living in Costa Rica – to make friends here? Costa Rican friends as well as friends from your own home country?

There are alot of unknowns as to our economy in the U.S. and they do vary some in different states. But basic supply and demand does rule along with obtainable finacing. My experience is some sellers and realtors do not directly address issues. Some may lack the knowlege base and or they are to emotionaly involved.Definition of value’what a willing buyer would offer and an accepting seller will take”
Price, value is a leveling factor to unemployment ,glut of inventory ,High interest rates, condition of property and any other variables even timing.
As to what the future brings nobody knows unless they know what events will happen in the future that said it also applies to our wishes and desires act now tommorrow may be to late and money will have had little comfort.
As to now in southern California bussiness has picked up.
AndrewKeymasterIf you examine developing countries becoming more developed you can see them evolve from a basic diet of rice and beans (for example) low in animal proteins and then as they become more affluent, the amount of red meat, other animal proteins & fast foods in their diet increases dramatically and their health problems, fertility and longevity begins to deteriorate.
It would appear that in our ‘developed world’- the US and many parts of Europe – is indeed fat (but not so happy) and the arteries are getting clogged up which will inevitably lead to a heart attack – hopefully we will learn from that heart attack when it comes (althoiugh some might say we have already had that heart attack) and not continue along the same self-destructive path until we are whacked with a debilitating stroke.
Unfortunately, apart from the very small, most affluent levels of society there also appears to be some serious intellectual stagnation.
Whether this is due to the ‘entertainment’ industry, the underfunded public education system or simply lack of hunger (to improve oneself or for food) it doesn’t really matter – we’ve got really serious problems in the first world which is definitely sliding down the scale in most categories.
What’s the solution? Is there one? Or, is this just one of the cycles that we must go through?

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterWe have many VIP Member in the same boat as you… Unfortunately, I do not believe that it is going to improve any time soon, I believe it will deteriorate.
Good luck!

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterOnce again bradbard manages to come up with some terrific (and very long) data but as long as there’s no infringement on any copyrights (I hope) it certainly is relevant…
I have read alot about the high-risk, sub-prime mortgages and that’s going to hurt big time and there is a lot of verifiable data here in brabards posting that should concern homeowners in the USA who are up to their eyeballs in debt…
It ain’t pretty now and it’s going to get a lot worse.
