It really is a sad state of affairs and it would appear that Bush and his cronies have shredded the Constitution with the Patriot and Military Commissions Acts.
Isn’t the Constitution the very foundation of what America stands for?

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterTruly pathetic isn’t it…
Whilst we cannot take a bottle of Lizano sauce on the plane or a pair of nail clippers 1,000,000 + illegal immigrants are WALKING into the USA across the US/Mexican border each year.
Is there anyone left that actually believes all of this “Homeland Security” crap?

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterAagh! My favorite rice which is bloody expensive here… I just bought another bag last week – love the stuff…
Sounds to me like you should probably open up your own soda/restaurant Maravilla and call it ‘Doggy Bag’ or something. The Ticos would love it :-0 as long as there’s some Salsa Lizano omn the table.

I have made seven trips to Costa Rica since 2003 and have never been robbed or stolen from in the places I have stayed. I do not frequent places where the homeless live on the streets and the drugies walk around looking for a fix. I must admit that making application for a drivers liscense in San Jose made me feel uncomfortable however I am a small women with blue eyes so I stuck out like a sore thumb.AndrewKeymasterI remember a documentary in the UK years ago where they examined video footage of various people and the way in which they walked in front of a large group of incarcerated convicts who were in prison because they mugged someone.
The convicts were asked to clearly indicate ‘who’ they would have mugged…
The bottom line? Just like the animal world… Walk along the street with hunched shoulders and look scared and you will be a higher probability target.
The lion would always prefer to attack a weak deer for example than a very alert healthy deer full of vim and vigor.
There are always exceptions but if you walk along the street proud, shoulders back, chest out as if you were on leave from the Special Forces and the perp will tend to choose to attack the weak looking target (including a drunk) and leave you alone.

AndrewKeymasterFor those of you that don’t know Adam he has a phenomenal website at http://www.dogproblems.com and a great series of ‘how to’ videos (which I have…) that will help you with practically every challenge you might face with your four legged friends.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterMust admit that I don’t even know if I have seen ‘organic’ dog food here…
I buy ProPlan, Science Diet and NutroChoice for my dog and regularly give her wee bits of cooked chicken that has been left over…
Since dogs often seem to be quite interested in eating the excrement from other animals, I’m not quite sure if they’ll be able to tell the difference with the organic food 🙂

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterI have rescued many dogs and am the proud pet & Chief Pooper Scooper to my new owner who is an Australian terrier (in Costa Rica of all places) and I LOVE all animals … It’s humans that I have problems with…
There are many affordable places to board your four legged loved ones when you travel abd I have found the veterinarians here to be excellent.
Most people walk the streets with their dogs and a stick. We (my dog and I) were only ever attacked once about five years ago which was in the hills of Escazu outside one of those ramshackled corrugated tin roof/wall homes but it wasn’t serious. My girlfriend at the time was a bit scared but nobody was hurt.

#1 Chief Pooper Scooper to Her Majesty the Australian terrierAndrewKeymasterThank you for summing it up so succinctly Marcia
As they say “common sense is not so common” and it amazes me when we read about these ‘scary’ muggings and hear through the grapevine that contrary to what was said in the newspapers, the guy was drunk, walking the streets of San Jose at 3am with his paid for ‘companion’ and his fat wallet full of cash sticking out of his back pocket…
We had another story recently of some American who was killed in Pavas. The unfortunate man had chosen to help ‘street people’ by giving them cash and allowing them into his home. These ‘street people’ were nearly all doing drugs and I guess one eveing they wanted more than he was willing to give him and killed him.
I guess he should be commended for his compassion and generosity but not sure about his level of ‘street smarts.’

We have stayed at the Dunn Inn many times. It is old, charming, safe, and they provide a good full service. Convenient to downtown shopping and we never had a problem. We enjoy staying there and often run into friends who live in various parts of Costa Rica who also stay there when shopping or visiting over night. We will stay there again and continue to refer them to others.Ginnee

Costa RicaAndrewKeymasterPhew! The list is very long…
Papayas are healthy for you and I eat all the seeds too which is great roughage however the problem is there are dozens of varieties and for my taste I tend to prefer the smaller ones.
You might try grenadillas which are small oval shaped fruit with an hard eggshell like outer coating with lots of seeds inside which have a sweet pulp around them, they are truly revolting to look at and you know where the ‘alien’ movies get their ideas from but they are delicious.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterHigh speed internet at the beach is not that easy to find and of course when you do find it, it’s ion the ‘high-rent’ areas
Sorry to state the obvious but have you looked at the WeLoveCostaRica.com Classifieds where there are a few rentals?
We had a lot more but I guess they expired at the end of the year…
