We have a lot of bats in Costa Rica and I don’t believe there is an easy way to get rid of them.
The key from day one is ‘prevention’ and not allowing them access in the first place. Rural areas are three times more likely to have bat problems that urban areas.
Have you spoken with your local veterinarian? He would probably have the right connections to help with that kind of a problem.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterDon’t know who Mike Oliver is but good builders in Costa Rica are VERY busy at the moment and it’s not easy finding one that’s available
Although I could recommend a builder in some areas, I’m afraid that Parrita is not one of them
This is one of the problems that thousands of Costa Rica land buyers face. They have been sold their piece of paradise but were not told during this process that finding a builder to build a home for them is not easy in some areas…

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterThe invitation may indeed be ‘genuine’ and Sr. Bonilla was kind enough to address one issue but did not answer the question posed by debbiesurfs about the record of the founder of the company which many of our VIP Members obviously feel is important.
He is of course free to answer or not answer whichever question he wishes …
Forgive me for saying so but if you have a serious interest in this project, (I certainly do not have the time and definitely do not have any interest) may I suggest that you visit them yourself and then report back to us. We would love to hear your feedback

WeLoveCostaRica.comPS. As you know, I tend to focus on helping our VIP Members find Costa Rica real estate that is being built by *experienced developers* with a *proven track record* of delivering a *quality product* – I don’t believe that this company falls into that category.
AndrewKeymasterThere are quite a few articles on this site about the Caribbean which you will find if you use the ‘Search’ facility
To my knowledge, there is not a single gated community on the Caribbean coast – it is a VERY different market place compared to the Pacific coast and the much lower real estate prices reflect that ‘difference.’
I spent a week in Punta Uva with my children in August and the beaches we visited were gorgeous and the water by the beach on the Caribbean side tends to be clearer and certainly warmer than the water on the Pacific side.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterOur VIP Member debbiesurfs has asked some other tough questions in the past and hopefully we’ll have some sort of a reply from Costa here for you soon

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterYou will see advertisements for them nearly every week in the Tico Times, AMCostaRica.com
I did meet James Brohl CPA who seemed very pleasant but I can’t personally vouch for his tax expertize.
You might email him at jrtb_1999@racsa.co.cr

Is that the same guy?

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterIn light of the thread’s topic – banking and the ‘security’ of those banks, the comments of GringoTico are totally appopriate and the way in which those undisputable facts were stated appear to be primarily do with ‘security’ of those banks rather than “to bash the US…”
None of our Colombian and Venezuelan VIP Members have complained and he is definitely bashing them …

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterThere are US CPA’s in Costa Rica and regular US tax preparers that will be able to help you with this – no problem.
There are tens of thousands of Americans here so the ‘support systems’ are very much in place.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterBloody hell! What a nightmare!
I doubt very much that you could get a passport without having one yourself. The other problem that you ‘may’ have is even to get a regular residency visa, you would have to produce a clean Police Report and sounds like that’s probably been screwed up for you too…
Good luck to you.

San Jose has just about everything you might neeed, it’s finding it that is sometimes a challenge.
I used to use a professional photo’ lab in Pavas, San Jose a couple of years ago for a lot of B&W work that had to be done and they were excellent.
Haven’t been past there for a while but I’m sure you’ll find what you need and I am also confident that you’ll find the labor costs here very much more reasonable.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterHey! I ain’t no queen! Hee! 🙂 Hee!
I am going to make a suggestion…
I see many people coming down here with pre-conceived ideas about what businesses ‘might work and what might not work based on their personal experiences ‘back-home’ and not on their personal experiences here.
Come here! Live here for six months and let the people and the market tell you what it needs. Sounds like you’ll be building a home so it’s not as if you’ll have nothing to do.
As for renting out a place to tourists, that’s fine but to get it certified as a tourist type business would probably require more work than you would like to….
You did touch on something in your email that sounds like it may be in demand in that area – internet. Buy six cheap computers, hook’em all up and offer internet service by the hour with FREE coffee and forget the food.
Scott Oliver – Founder
WeLoveCostaRica.comPS. Being able to accept credit card payments from US clients for a Costa Rica B&B is considered ‘high-risk’ by the credit card companies and it may be difficult to arrange without anm official designation as a ‘tourism’ business.
AndrewKeymasterDo any of these people have last names?
