I have to try and say this as politely as I can without offending anybody.

It is totally natural for all of us to try and think of how potential changes might affect us however, it nearly always ends up being a waste of time because in the vast majority of cases, when something has been proposed, what eventually passes as law is normally very different that what had been initially proposed.

This applied to the “panic” that set in when an ‘association’ in Costa Rica started talking about new income retirements for pensionados which NEVER materialized and was NEVER even mentioned by immigration.

Yes! I did read this with great interest but I will “wait and see” what happens and take action at that time.

I will try to write something about the trip before the end of August koty but my two wonderful teenagers are with me for another few weeks so I’m trying to devote as much time as I can to them.

I do love to visit that area but could not live there.

My previous query in the forum evolved into a discussion of cell phone usage in Costa Rica. That information was useful and I’m adjusting my plans to follow the sage advice of the responding forum contributors. However my initial question remains unanswered. During high season (specifically early January), how difficult is it to find lodgings without prior reservations?

I am not talking about high tourist traffic areas. We (three of us requiring separate beds) were thinking about places like Alajuela, Grecia, Naranjo, Tilaran, Turialba or other mid-sized towns. And, of course, we’d like to spend a couple of nights in San Jose.

It seems to me that non-tourist destinations should have a fair amount of vacancies, even during high season. Is that the case? If so, what are the chances that we can haggle over prices? Do they do that in CR?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Absolutely!

But only you will be able to find that out for yourself and your own particular style of living.

But with property taxes a fraction of most places in the USA and with no heating or air conditioning costs (in the Central valley area anyway) – that alone will save you a small fortune.

Me too! But haven’t had a good smoker since my New York days…

Don’t forget COFFEE wood! The coffee wood smoked shrimp at the Alta Hotel is delicious!

I would personally be very interested in learning more about this too so if you or your father-in-law want to share some articles about barbecuing and wood smoking in Costa Rica, I will gladly post them on this site.

PS. Please also let me know if he would be willing to make a wood smoker for me too?

Our site does feature more condos that anything else Linda because we remain convinced that for the majority of people – condos are the most suitable, stress-free investment for people moving here.

That is not to say that they are suitable for everyone but for the most part, they are well built, more scure, in a good location and there a less potential problems with titles.

As you know, on this site, I recommend ONLY experienced developers with a proven track record of delivering a quality product in Costa Rica.

in reply to: WLI and Colorado. Is this the right combination? #177924

WLI is one of the companies featured in numerous ‘Discussion Forums’ in Costa Rica and there are some very major questions surrounding their methods of doing business.

Do all your homework, do it again, then visit the property, stand on it and do the necessary checks that one should do when buying land then do a title search and then make an informed decision. There is PLENTY of land for sale in Costa Rica

PLEASE ALSO NOTE that as far as we can see, this company has zero real estate development experience anywhere in the world which would certainly be a “no go” for me but may be acceptable for you.

Being able to buy raw land and re-sell it is a whole different ball game than being able to “develop” a well planned comunity wher you would be happy to live.

    Thanks Bill

We all had a great time in Punta Uva (about 90 minutes south of Limon and south of Puerto Viejo) staying in friend’s lovely vacation home.

Lots of sun, sand and some pretty good snorkelling
