Thank you for your feedback
I guess every company out there has a few bad days and good days (I was disgusted with Avis the last time I flew into Florida) but over all, the feedback I have received about Dean’s care has been overwhelmingly ‘good.’

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterWhy not all of the above?
I have found that when I am “torn” about making a decision that I should educate myself as much as possible about the scenario and just let it sit for a while and allow my subconscious to digest all the information and, when I allow that to happen, one day I wake up to realize ‘Wham! I REALLY know now that the time is right do ………. (fill in the blanks) and I tend to make far more sensible, educated and profitable decision than when I try to force a decision.
Obviously you need to manage your risk while this process is taking place but Tamarindo remains a popular area. I don’t personally like it but as far as an investment is concerned, if your home is worth 50% more this year than it was last year – Fantastic!
There are obviously plenty of people that do like the area …

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterYou may wish to take a look at your news source again today for some excellent ‘letters to the editor’ regarding the “horrible” real estate news you had originally referred to …
I love Jeff Fisher’s sarcastic letter.
I’m sure you’ll have a great trip.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterNo idea but have you searched for ‘Costa Rica aspiradora’ on the internet?

AndrewKeymasterOh! I see… George gets invited regularly but I don’t… Humph!

They’ll be back screaming for their favourite players before the end of the weekend.

AndrewKeymasterI know George well and like him a lot… His website is at http://www.costaricearetireonss.com and he boasts of offering tours for the “non-rich.”
Too many people believe that Costa Rica is “expensive” but it’s as expensive as you want it to be. You don’t need to buy a $500K home to be comfortable and George built his lovely home for about $100K if I remember rightly and he’ll tell you that he’s never been happier.
If you ‘search’ for George Lundquist on this site, you’ll see a few articles written by him and see the new home that he has for sale.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterThe Costa Ricans very rarely wear shorts and Maravilla is dead right! Wearing shorts normally means “tourist.”

AndrewKeymasterGarland Baker is a very intelligent human being and I value his opinion, but it is just that – an ‘opinion’ which he is certainly entitled to but, where are the facts?
What facts show us that the Costa Rica real estate “boom” is over? There are none and unfortunately, those facts are very hard to come by. The article is full of suppositions and very little substance.
He states that “The seller’s market is probably over here.” Not exactly definitive is it?
Saying that the “Evidence for slowdown is via word-of-mouth” is convenient but I could also give you “Several candid reports from the Pacific” that clearly indicate that many developers and real estate agents I know have never been busier.
Like every other real estate market, there are areas of Costa Rica that are frothy but you can’t paint the entire country with that same brush without giving us some concrete evidence.
And just because some people in the USA have used “second and third mortgages” in the USA to buy property in Costa Rica, doesn’t mean everybody has…
Buying real estate anywhere is a very serious, long-term decision and if you are managing your finances prudently and not overextending yourself, you should not have a problem.
However, if you are leveraging yourself to the maximum in the USA to buy real estate in Costa Rica, it’s only a matter of time before you will face some serious financial pain.
PS. You do know that there are other people in the world that are buying Costa Rica real estate? More and more Europeans are buying real estate here and real estate buyers there are thrilled that the dollar is plummeting.
PPS. You’ve heard me say it before and I’ll say it again here about how Ticos “take advantage of us.” In the seven years that I have been studying the Costa Rican real estate market, I would say that more than 90% of the scam artists, rip-off merchants and other real estate fraudsters that I hear about have been North Americans ripping off other North Americans and NOT Ticos.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterSorry! But this does NOT sound like you have thought this through very well….
If you were to drive from Canada to Costa Rica:
1. Do you know how to handle the importation of your animals through all the different countries before you reach Costa Rica?
2. Do the other countries have a quarantine process? I do not know? I know that the veterinarians can easily help you with your pets when they arrive by plane but I do NOT know how that can be arranged when you drive into Costa Rica.
3. Have you spoken with someone about the immigration requirements? Have you already arranged your Costa Rica residency?
4. Do you know what duties will be applicable on the van when you bring it into Costa Rica?Scott Oliver – Founder
WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterI do have a couple of people up there but I’m not too clear on what you want so will email you privately ….

AndrewKeymasterI am not an attorney however, I did have a long conversation about this with Roberto Umaña who is an attorney who specializes only in residency.
There is unfortunately a serious contradiction in the income requirements for rentistas in this new law and until the byelaws are published I am told that nobody will really be able to tell you you exactly how it is to be implemented.
Roberto told me: “In trying to clarify this confusing matter, the answer that I obtained from the Legal Department of Immigration, was even more confusing. They stated that in their interpretation of the law, that article 77 was conceived for individual applicants only, so if you have the US$1,000 per month, that would suffice for a rentista.”
As soon as we know more, we’ll let you know by posting an article on the site.

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterPlease do let us know how you go about doing this “vivian” as there are many small business owners who are VIP Members of the site.
Buena suerte! Good luck!

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterThanks for digging that up Debbie, must have taken a while but, as you can see there is no mention of the National Geographic unless I am missing something.
