The book was only published in May 2005 so there will be some prices that will be slightly out of date but it would be difficult to notice. The realy important information is NOT out of date.

As stated, the whole process by which the new fiscal plan was reached was unanimously termed as “unconstitutional.” So after four years of talking about – a monumental amount of time and effort – the new fiscal plan has been shot down, for the time being anyway.

There are no changes and it is really a total waste of time GUESSING what MIGHT be incluided in the next version of the tax plan… It’s simply a case of ‘wait and see’.

Timetogo – You are making a lot of sensational claims in this posting with no data to back it up.

Have you read the fiscal plan?

The existing ‘new’ fiscal plan has been dismissed and although they will come back with some other version, I would suggest that it is pure folly to guess what will be included next time. And, it’s NOT just the President involved, he was surprised that this was shot down.

Your statements suggesting that “YOU WILL PAY ALOT MORE TAX” when NONE OF US have a clue about what will eventually become law is irresponsible.

Please show us EXACTLY where you found the facts to make these claims?

No one is talking about it because it’s not a serious problem in many areas but in my ‘What I Do Not Like’ about Costa Rica at I did mention burning of things…

In your part of Costa Rica which is a major sugar growing region, they do burn the waste becasue it’s the cheapest away to dispose of it …

Go to a store called TIPS in Pavas (just around the corner from Channel 7 television) and you’ll find TONS of quality kitchen accessories (NOT appliances) offered at great prices.

It’s the store where all the restaurant owners buy their kitchen and baking stuff and I can assure you the prices are better than most places you’ll find in the USA

What seems to be missing is the understanding that no matter where in the world you are, for brand name ‘sophisticated’ imported kitchen items, the further away you are from the big cities, the more you will pay. The same applies here.

All those items manufactured in China (seems to be 90% of all items manufactured) are a darned site cheaper in Costa Rica than they are in the USA.

This is not totally correct because you can be employed by a Costa Rican company but those jobs are few and far between

There’s no in-depth data yet and won’t be for quite some time, this was only shot down YESTERDAY.

Since the fiscal plan has been shot down – There are no tax changes!

Please do check with your CPA but as far I know there is no double taxation.

As of 4pm yesterday the whole process by which the new fiscal plan was reached was unanimously termed as “unconstitutional.” So after four years of talking about – a monumental amount of time and effort – the new fiscal plan has been shot down, for the time being anyway.

Our new President Oscar Arias was genuninely “surprised” at this development and no doubt will be wondering how he will do the things he wanted to do without the monies that he had hoped would come from the new fiscal plan…

Our recommended accountant Randall, will write more about this in Tuesday’s newsletter but in the meantime – nothing is changing, probably for a year or so.

Online shopping requires credit cards and processors charge fairly hefty fees in Costa Rica and the credit card processors also automatically withhold some of the sales taxes applicable so they tend to prefer cash and do not place as much emphasis on their sites as you would normally expect in the USA.

In addition with prices changing so rapidly, few of their sites have the prices listed.

If they did have an online presence, for obvious reasons, it would be in Spanish – Do you speak fluent Spanish?

We will be producing a directory for sale with stores etc listed and will notify you all when it’s completed.

Not sure if that would be considered as ‘working’ in Costa Rica but to open a gallery, you would need to form Costa Rica corporation, have rental agreements, hire an attorney, accountant, hire sales staff, cleaning lady, become familar with Costa Rica labor laws, Costa Rica sales taxes, Costa Rica income taxes, social security payments for employees…

There are a thousand and one complications in starting up a gallery or a business in the US and there’s a few here too… If you are willing to put in the work, I’m sure it can be done but I have no idea whether
it would be worth it or not…

I have had dozens of family members and close friends who have spent a significant amount of time with Doctors at CIMA and it’s always the same story about the lightning speed of service, the compassion, genuine sincerity and round the clock care, total professionalism and incredible prices…

    I love this place…

You can of course place an advertisement in our new classified section to try and rent it out but you’re right, most real estate agents aren’t interested in helping people find a rental unit and it’s easy to see why.

They rent something for $1,000 per month and they make $1,000. They sell that same property (and it doesn’t take much more effort) and their firm’s commission would be around $7,500

I think it would be very difficult for us to think of what you should focus on without having seen this “pretty unique” property.

As for “commercial brokers” – I really don’t believe that there are too many that focus only on “commercial” – they like to diversify and get involved in anything…

May be a case of doing your own homework and advertising it yourself.

If you wish to send me a couple of photographs, I would be happy to take a quick look, I love little intellectual challenges …

Apart from the antiques, these items are clearly necessitites, for personal use and not for resale and if I were you, I would bring them when moving here.

Depending on where you will be living, the antiques may not survive well here. Might be best to sell them …

But what on earth is a serger?
