I doubt you’ll find anyone willing you to rent you a private apartment/home for such a short period of time.
Here’s a couple of those long-term, apartment hotel type arrangements:
Most expensive
Moderate priced:
Value Priced:
For Bed & Breakfasts: or you might want to try a Homestay Program too, take your time, have a good look around and learn some Spanish while you’re at it
You will normally pay a lot more than you would pay in a good B&B but you would have your own kitchen etc&
Please note that I have NOT stayed in any of these places& The only one that I have been inside is the top one – Villas del Rio, which is lovely but, you are paying through the nose for their facilities.
REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN NEGOTIATE Especially at this time of the year. Offer to PAY THEM CASH and the price will come down even more&

AndrewKeymasterThis is not may area of expertize but it’s my understanding that the ‘water business’ in Costa Rica is very much a government monopoly, one has to be a registered with them in Costa Rica and to avoid any significant loss of money & time, I would ensure that your business plan is legal here in Costa Rica before you go too far …
I appreciate that your business may be more to do with “quality & treatment” but don’t know where the lines are drawn.

AndrewKeymasterPlease note that as in all professions in Costa Rica, the VAST majority of the best medical, technical, mechanical, architect, investment and legal professionals are in and around the city of San Jose.

Founder – WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterSorry but this is way out of my area. Our expertise is primarily for Americans and other responsible expats hoping to buy and develop real estate in Costa Rica.
This 44 year old organization IDA is a rural development organization who’s goal is to help the campesinos… And since they have nothing to do with 99.9% of our VIP Members, I have not taken the time to study it …
Apart from the information that I see on their website, I do not know anything about the mechanics of their process.

AndrewKeymasterNo! There are abandoned projects in all areas of the country but the majority are certainly near the beach.
Trying to fulfill “dreams” helps build a person, shared dreams have built thousands of companies and have created entire nations but, there are also plenty of shattered dreams that have left people pracxtically destitute.
My goal is simply to ensure that our VIP Members understand the “risks” of these kinds of projects. Most of our members do not have hundreds of thousands of dollars that they can afford to ‘risk’. And, they are at stage in life (45-60) where starting all over again, is NOT easy.
As with the investment strategy used for my clients (Sorry! But we can not work with US clients), it’s always “high probability with low-risk.”
Why SPECULATE with money that most of our members should not be SPECULATING with? Why not stick to evaluating quality projects that are being built by people with proven experience in Costa Rica real estate development (rather than Minnesota).
I am NOT suggesting that Minnesota Partners of Costa Rica will NOT get built, they may be extremely well-funded and very knowledgeable but, if that was the case, why do they need your money to build?

AndrewKeymasterThis is terrific, real life advice – thank you
Would you consider writing a brief article for us about the problems you have faced in the past with tenants? And advice on how to avoid those problems?

WeLoveCostaRica.comAndrewKeymasterThese are “projections” only on this site and from what I can see – nothing has even been built yet. Not a long track record then eh?
I would suggest that the only REAL “slam dunk rental program” that you will find is with a project that has already been built and that has already been rented.
ANYBODY can make “projections.” Here’s another “projection” for you… Most of the real estate development projects that are dreamed of in Costa Rica NEVER even get built!

AndrewKeymasterIf your wife is a Tica, you would probably be much better off visiting the area for a decent period of time and having your Spanish speaking wife take a good look around.
I would suggest that:
1: Your wife’s family here in Costa Rica do the preliminary legwork for you. Basic investigation to see what’s available and who exactly you should talk to and then
2: You guys fly to Costa Rica and whittle down that selection further until you find something you like and
3: Make sure that this area really does have everything you need and then …
4: Hire an attorney to do a title search and then “if” all is well
5: Make an offer.
Unfortunately, if it’s just a “mid-sized lot” that you’re interested in at this stage, most real estate agents won’t have the time to help you.

AndrewKeymasterI don’t believe there is a Lady Godiva horse back riding school here 🙂
Although that would be an interesting but somewhat “itchy” idea.

AndrewKeymasterI’m sure your German Shepherd will love it here too Karl and hope that you have got all the necessary expert veterinarian advice to ensure he has a good trip.

AndrewKeymasterAnd clean underwear, the Costa Rica immigration authorities are VERY fussy about that …

AndrewKeymasterAll political emails about the USA and September 11th have been deleted. Let’s please stick to Costa Rica related matters folks

I personally handle all real estate agent referrals and can not imagine how I missed you but, I guess things do slip through cyberspace from time to time….

AndrewKeymasterThere are many, many, many places in the tourist areas that would be happy to accept US dollars and your US credit cards.
