Please use the ‘Search’ feature on this site for Paragon and you will find a significant amount of information.

I would strongly encourage anyone buying land, anywhere to VISIT Costa Rica, see the land, test it and check the title etc., BEFORE they buy it and please read José’s Three Golden Costa Rica Real Estate Rules at

Please also read the forum postings expecially the one from US attorney Patrick McLaughlin which you can read at

If you guys want to try and arrange a social GROUP type thing, I would be glad to try and help. Something simple like the MAD group 🙂 for us middle aged diners…

For about 18 months I arranged a monthly ‘Night Out’ for my investment clients and attorneys that I knew but to be blunt, it got to the stage where I was forking out too much money for people that hadn’t paid their full share for whatever reason.

There are no restaurants that will give separate tabs for 40 people and one night I paid nearly $200 in addition to my tab and was not pleased … I make a good living but that’s not right.

Like you, I prefer the mountains to the beach too…

But would you please share with us the difference between the real estate rental prices that you have seen in ‘which’ areas of Heredia, in comparison with other areas like Escazu for instance.

I have made these comparisons before that my data is a bit old now and would love to hear your findings.

Paragon Properties have updated one of their websites which you can see at

I’m confused as to why the photographs of the ‘Model Home’ and the ‘Gatehouse Construction’ are of the exact same home and the exact same gatehouse in the exact same location when they are featured on eight different projects but, this site and their videos has been done very professionally.

On their new video, the Paragon chairman again states that they are building a new airport in Orotina which we have already written about at ‘Costa Rica’s Invisible New International Airport (??)’ and after reading that, you may decide, as many of us have, that either the Chairman of Paragon is wrong about the new airport or, the now former Costa Rican Minister of Finance is wrong.

I would suggest that the Costa Rican Minister of Finance knows a bit more about the country …

As always, we would encourage you to do your homework before making any serious financial decisions about buying land in Costa Rica.

I was born in Scotland, spent my first seven years in Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Ghana and later lived in quite a few other countries before moving to Costa Rica in 1999.

I feel more at “home” in Costa Rica than anywhere else in the world

That may be the case Jenny but the ease of ‘adjustment’ will depend greatly on the age of the child and surely the Costa Rican school curriculum is VERY different from the US school curriculum?

And the calendar years is also completely different no?

I don’t honestly think that Grecia is a good place to move to with young American children. I don’t know of any good international schools there.

The American friends that I had that lived in Grecia put their two kids on the bus to go to school to San José, they spent ninety minutes on the bus each way – every day – That is NOT a good idea

If on the other hand, you’re happy having your children in an all Costa Rican school, I’m sure there will be some good ones around …

“Fun” – Swimming in a highly polluted Central American river? Oh! Nooooo! But thank you for your kind comments.

I also like Antigua, it’s one of the few heavy tourist areas that still has real indigenous culture. That is one thing that is lacking here.

And spellchek? Wat do we need that four?

And we’re all dying to see your photograph “breezygirl7” which you can easily insert in the ‘Looking for love’ section of the classifieds which you will find at:

We have to do our own homework, we have to make our own decisions and we have to live with those decisions.

One can only imagine what sort of relationship those friends have now after going through that ordeal and yes! It’s always the most vulnerable that suffer the most.

The scam artists here are not targetting the wealthy real estate investors are they? They are targetting Mr. & Mrs. Smith who have saved all their lives and now dream of having a little piece of paradise.

Many of them are selling their homes in the USA and re-investing that money in what they think is their dream here and these scumbages are right there to offer ‘easy financing’ on ‘beach front properties’ with no title, roads or infrastructure but yes! Nice fluffy websites….

And again, I would like to stress that 95% of the Costa Rica real estate scams I hear about are Americans ripping off other Americans so we can’t blame this on the Ticos….

I am single too but dating a lovely Guatemalan lady.

Belize brings back memories of the toughest jungle warfare exercizes I ever took part in….

While we were there, some Americans were filming a Vietnam movie and their stunt men refused to swim in the river in Belize City which was a sensible decision on their part, but we were young, brave and stupid and for the equivalent of a enough money to pay the beer tab for one night – we put on our camouflage cream etc., and swam in there for them. Whether that footage was ever used on film, I have no idea.

I’m older now, not so brave but still stupid 🙂

There is prejudice everywhere… I grew up in West Africa and was the ONLY white kid in school but when you’re a kid, you don’t really see colour or become prejudiced UNLESS someone “teaches” you… Thankfully nobody ever “taught” me that…

My whole young life was very African until I was 7 when I went off to boarding school in Scotland… Phew! Talk about black and white!

I may be mistaken but I sense that here in Costa Rica there is probably more ‘prejudiced’ thinking towards Nicaraguans that there is towards any black people…

Excellent! We have some terrific people as members of this site.

We are nearly all looking for the same thing – peace tranquility, freedom and a nice place (preferably with a great climate) to live our lives – a life that WE want to live. And as you so eloquently point out, we’re not all retired. I’m turning 46 this week and wa surprised that a BIG percentage of our members are relatively young.

We would love to hear your story about why you came here and from where? What you felt that Costas Rica offered that you didn’t already have? Do you have children here? Where are you living? Did you rent, buy or build? How are you paying the bills? How is the rest of the family accepting their new life? What do you wish you knew before you came here? And what’s the most important thing that Costa Rica has taught you?

That kind of stuff? We only need about 300-400 words and preferably with up to six photographs in .jpg format…

Are you sure about staying in San Juan Terry?

Isn’t that a LONG way from Costa Rica?
