You have to really watch out so that you do not get trapped. I am building 23 houses and from the INS agent in Quepos charged me $1800. This is the whole fee for worker’s comp. Quite a deal. Now when you get the WC insurance all of the contractor’s workers are listed. This list gets turned over to the Municipality and they know how much withholding tax is going to be needed to build. So at the end of every month they are going to be looking for the withholding tax from the workers. If you are paying the contractor to pay wages-why give him more money than you have to? If he doesn’t pay the monthly tax quess who gets charged? YOU. You need to talk to my Architect who has 30 years of experience and make sure you offer to pay him for his review. Leo Barrants speaks excellent english. If you have any doubts please do yourself a favor and talk to Leo Barrantes email leobarra108@yahoo.com.ar You are going to save money in the long run. Let us know how it works out.

Huggo Salizar will answer and talk to you on Saturday, Sunday even today. He uses Yahoo messanger so calls are free. He has experience as a criminal lawyer, an accountant and is well versed in Civil law. He charges you according to the CR Book. And I believe him to be honest. He will ask for a nominal fee to review your case. He will answer all your questions and he doesn’t talk down to us Gringos. One downfall that he overcomes well, he doesn’t speak english well but uses an excellent translator.
Send him an email tell him Stan from Bandera sent you.

Congrates. I find that Tico Times is very receptive to attorneys that like to swindle. I have found 2 American attorneys that practice law in Costa Rica and Yes they speak our language. With Scott’s permission I will post their names and phone numbers

Like Scott said the dollar has fell against most currencies. I had to put up a cd for $18K for my Setena I bought a CD in Euros from the Banco National de Costa Rica They paid 3 plus % for a year. I want to see if I can get a checking account in Euros or Swiss Francs. I put a chart up the Euro has appreciated quite nicely.

    Thank God
You know people have lost thousands that read this site including me and to hear all this babble over $2K. Scott How long have you been there 6 years? If that is all you lost in Costa Rica so far you should be happy. There is no free lunch. Everyone that moves or buys property there must pay their dues. Blow it off. See my new thread today.

I should be in Perteson’s book that Scott sells. I know it is in another book. I don’t know if I can post it here. I can’t post my email on this site. Maybe you could post yours. You can get health insurance here also.

I opened a Citibank account by mail. $30 to wire over the internet plus $10 from BNCR. If you wire early in the day you will get the funds the same day at BNCR. Deposited a Citibank personal check at BNCR cleared in 8 calender days.

Scott I am being cynical. Best thing don’t you think is pay half? Have you ever heard of Carlos Chamberlain or Steve Wroe. Is there an attorney’s website that lists all attorney’s in CR?

Abel Ramos is operating without a lawyers liscense. What you need to do is become a lawyer. They do it all the time in Costa Rica. They say they can help send them money and then the calls slow down and you can’t do a thing about it except call another lawyer that says he will get your money back and solve your problem for the same amount and get nailed again.
