barbara annMember
we are selling our house in Jaco.. ourselves
barbara annMemberyou bet and you see what you get for your money
barbara annMemberI feel for you. sold real estate for years in the states, paid all my fees which were high to be licensed, went to classes as required by law several times a year. Here they pay nothing to sell, most have no experience with real estate or real estate law. they want you to pay 5% and pay 13% tax on their commission with a successful sale. It is sad. The MLS fees alone in the states killed you. And if you list with a realtor, then more than likely they do not share with the others. So from one office to another you are an unknown entity, We have no MLS here. The title companies where I worked used to do complete virtual tours and photos for less that 100 dollars. Sometimes for free.
barbara annMembermy attorney for the pensionado said we did not have to deposit into a costa rican account, but I get different versions too. I have also been told only two banks in costa rica can be used for direct deposit by the states, It is like renewing your drivers license from having your passport when you got it to renewing it with your cedula. everyone tells you something different. and things change here from time to time without notice,,,still love it here
barbara annMemberI would probably start with Liana Robinson. Liana started the library here, our only and very first. It is next to the patio bar, beatle bar, and behind century 21. She does teach spanish and english classes there and does a lot of projects with children of Jaco, also tutoring with others. Americans own the larger restaurants for the most part her. los amigos, hotel poseidon, jaco taco, sunrise bella, those are places where you will see Americans and other english speaking customers. there is a big celebration for the 4th of july at jaco taco that a lot of people attend. hope this helps. the library facebook page is bibliotecadejaco
barbara annMemberwhere we live the police have NO bullets for their guns, they use tape to hold wrists together if they arrest someone…rare.. they have one pair of handcuffs for the whole town.
barbara annMemberNow you have to have an appointment and pay $50. I made the appointment and the notary from the embassy will work. thank you all for your help
barbara annMembera friend that speaks spanish called the motor vehicle dept.this is what they told her:
we called the department of motor vehicles and asked them because we were confused. They said that you must get the new plates, but that you have all of 2013 to do it.
and you are right it is a fixed cost, as I said we paid the 600 colones plus 20500 for a golf cart and a car..it is not valuation…I could not believe we had to pay the same for the golf cart as a car
barbara annMembersorry I forgot that detail..our golf cart is in my name with my passport .our car is in my husbands name with his passport…such fun. starting to see the little bitty flag we paid 20500 plus 600 for on vehicles, would not want to be in line at the postoffice toward the end of the year
barbara annMemberwe dont know. we have a golf cart for town. that has to have new plates too..we just accidentally found out about the plates from the librarian here, she had hers sunday when we went to atenas and left her car sit for five days, I would think you could copy your plate and keep the paperwork from the post office, but who knows..no one tells you anything. you just run into it along the way.

this is a link to a tool to check whether or not you can receive benefits indefinitely for social security. so far so good for costa rica, just restrictions of which banks they direct deposit to.February 13, 2013 at 4:52 pm in reply to: Spot on Article – Earning an income while retired in Costa Rica #201216barbara annMemberI have always felt this would happen. I think there is a time limit for staying out of the states. that I am not sure of either. If anyone has had an experience with expats let me know
The next step will be: “If you move out of the States after X date, you get nothing in SS”.
Right now it is difficult to get information on how many benefit dollars – SS, GI, etc. – leave the States.
If anyone has an idea of how to get the info, other than doing it country by country, please let me know.[/quote]
barbara annMembermy husband renews this year, but we became residents since we obtained our first costa rica license, I don’t know what that changes for us.
barbara annMemberthis is going to make you even more upset…dell is here in costa rica and so is intel….
I am told the best computers to buy that can be repaired here are toshiba or dell. If you want to get one at the price in the states have someone bring one back or go back and buy one that is what we had to do. the costa rican government want their money for anything imported…not much helpbarbara annMemberwe went to the embassy together and paid together, they had one window open and we waited awhile. Our attorneys office is close and he charged less than ARCR
