I would make sure that if you are reading up on Dentist and are in the habit of taking suggestions from others on who to use, and you decide to use that Dentist, make sure that you have the appointment with THAT Dentist and not a up and coming Dentist in their office.

The procedure that I went to the CR Dentist for in the first place was to get all my mercury fillings removed. I had requested from my USA Dentist that he remove the fillings but he was not interested as he thought that the benefit did not warrant the risk of removing the mercury.

Since I knew that there was a risk associated with removing the old mercury fillings I did quite a bit of research on which Dentist specializes in this procedure, read articles from them, I even emailed the Dentist personally back and forth before deciding on who to use. I was told that high suction, a rubber dam that isolates the grindings from getting inside your mouth and from being swallowed would be used to prevent the old fillings from getting into my system.

Needless to say I was satisfied with the credentials of the Dentist that I had selected and when I arrived at the office to get my mercury fillings removed I found out that the Dentist that I thought was going to do the work was not going to perform the procedure at all as a new Dentist was going to be used to perform the work. I agreed to move forward as I was assured that the new Dentist was very qualified to perform the procedure.
It took 2 visits to handle the fillings as they do not want to deaden both sides of the mouth on the same visit. Evertything seemed to go normally on the first visit so I thought all was well.

Near the end of my second visit to finalize the removal of the fillings, on the last filling, the rubber dam broke and allowed the grindings to get into my mouth. I understand that accidents happen, but when the rubber dam broke, the Dentist did not want to stop to replace it. He commented that he was so close to the end of the procedure that he wanted to proceed with the last bit of removal of the mercury filling with the ripped Rubber Dam. After that was done I spent the next few minutes rinsing and gargling bits and pieces of mercury fillings out of my mouth and throat area.

In the process of removing the old fillings some damage was done to my inner gum line causing the Dentist the need to cauterize the bleeding. I asked what was with the metal box he placed on my chest and found out it was the “grounding plate” for the electrical cauterizing device. The Dentist mentioned that there was a little bleeding and that everything would be alright. For the next few days I felt that there was some damage to the inner gumline and went back to show the Dentist to get his opinion on what had happened. He had a mouth spray brought to me and I was told to use it several times a day to help heal the damaged gumline. I tried the spray for several weeks but the spot did not seem to be healing up properly.

I decided to visit my regular USA Dentist and asked him to take a look as the damaged area was not healing properly. His best guess is that the clamp used to hold the “Rubber dam” over the tooth was placed too far down past the tooth and onto the gum line causing the damage, either that or a slip of the drill bit while removing the old filling.
The USA Dentist gave me a prescription strength mouthwash to help heal the injury. It did heal after a few weeks of daily washing with the medicine.

So in closing I highly suggest that you get confirmation that the person with all the credentials is the one that is actually going to be performing the procedure and not going to be deferring the work to someone not as qualified as the Dentist that is being used to garner patients by showing a long list of credential on their website etc.
,…Yes, there is science behind it (I am an RN) and it does work BUT, and there is a large BUT,…
How large of a “but” could I expect?

Sprite,
Thanks for all the info and thoughts
to consider.
Also,….If you must use the word “poop” could you please warn me first as I,…… I’m sorry folks,… I could not resist that jab.
See, I have a slight sense of humor.
While Carlin’s choice of words might be troubling for some folks here fearing some type of “damage” to their young children’s ears… the TOPIC and the FUTURE of the US should be a MUCH larger concern for parents… words are words… but the direction the US is headed and the future that your children will face (and suffer) should be what is REALLY scaring the hell out of you!
Imxploring,
I would say that I’m very concerned about what the world will look like in 10-20 years. That’s the main reason that I’m looking into Costa Rica as a exit plan, just in case.
But that does not make me robotic to the point that this is all I think about hence the comment about, what is to be known as the “Carlin Incident”.
If I’m in the minority as compared to those that do not care what type of words their children hear then that’s okay also and I will be more careful in the future.
I would kinda think that this would kinda fall under the TOS #7
Not to hijack this thread, 😆 but what is the opinion on how the Death of U.S. Democracy will effect those of us living in CR at that time? I’m really concerned as to how we would fair if we were in CR when and if the US might falter to the point that it might somehow effect CR in some financial way. Any ideas on this point?
The last thing that I would want is to be in a worse position safety wise than I would be if I had stayed here in the US.
I guess no one knows for sure, but would still like to get some comments.
Thanks,
Phil

My original comment was very simple,..
While the previous post may be true, I think it should have been prefaced with the comment that some of Carlins Language is not child appropriate.
I was just asking for a small comment about the content so I could have skipped playing the Video.
Sometimes sound waves travel beyond the person sitting in front of the computer and I should have been more on my game and realized that George Carlins shows contain these words.
I’ll make sure to either turn it way down, put in headphone or send the children outside prior to playing these clips.
Sorry about asking for this favor. I do love this site and enjoy the comments.
I realize that it should be my responsibility to monitor what my children hear, not yours. Again I’m sorry,..
And, this site is subject to heavy child traffic, I suppose.??? Come on. Everybody knows what kind of language George Carlin used, so why in the world should any sort of disclaimer have been necessary?
Uh,,. “Everybody knows?”
How do you know this?
If I had been playing this with headphones on it might have been different, but I played it where it played out loud.
Would a few keystrokes to make mention to use discerment when around kids have hurt?
Why would anyone come to the defense of not at least a small warning just to be safe? I’m not even upset at the original post that had the video at this point as I was just mentioning a possible reminder for later.

Talking about North Americans not knowing their Geography brings to mind when my sister inlaw asked me “Why is Hawaii so hot and Alaska so cold since they were so close together?”
I said “what?” I then realized that she was referring to the weathermans map that shows Hawaii and Alaska just off the coast of California so that North Americans can see all 50 States in one picture.

We also loved to see the article from Jenny, we had the good fortune to meet both Charles and Jenny on our first trip to CR back in 07. We also were saddened to hear of Charles passing earlier in the year from a mutual friend who has now also experienced the loss of her husband recently.
We hope to be able to stop by and see you again Jenny on our next trip down.

Here is a pic of one.
A catalytic converter will be placed “in line” in the exhaust system and should have flanges on both ends so that it can be replaced when it fails or stops working.
Here is a link to a pic of one, and most will look similar.

in reply to: Buying & Selling Gold/Silver in Costa Rica?? #198261

I’ve seen shops set up where they buy and sell jewelry and they have signs out the offer to buy gold etc so I would imagine it woudl be legal to do so.
I had considered doing this myself but when I visited these stores there are gates from the ceiling down to 6 inches above the glass showcases and I started to think about the potential risk of being cased, followed etc and have put this in the back of my mind for now.

BigB,
While I cannot comment on the Visual Link, I thought that I would share that Rosseta Stone works for us.
From my 7 year old to myself, a 46 year old just starting to learn Spanish, we are all able to work at our own pace.

in reply to: Solar Energy – Your opinion please? #196543

Jim,
Are the meters there in Costa Rica some digital type that tracks WHEN you use the power?
I like the idea of using the power at night to charge batteries. of course isn’t the power there fairly inexpensive? I would think that preparing for outages would be plan A for me.
I have seen the power connections from ICE to the houses but never wanted to get that close to take a closer look at the type of meter.
What I would like to do is to find the perfect property where there is a river next to it to harness gravity by using the falling water to generate electricity. Not sure of the legalities of this but it would nice if it is legal.

in reply to: Using my ATT IPHONE in CR is it possible ? #196246

Jessica,
It seems your phone service provider has this cool feature. Wish mine had that option.
Some phonesbhave applications available to install. Look to see if you can get the Skype app installed
to see if you can bypass the phone feature so that the call is not made using your regular phone dial pad.
Who is your service through?
