While not a “rocker”, 87 year old Tony Bennett still performs to sold out crowds, and he is worth every penny!!

Cobano is a very small, rural town with a couple of hardware stores, a couple of super markets, an English speaking veterinarian, a medical clinic, a new and air conditioned post office, an English speaking pharmacist, 1 bank (at least I think there is only 1), and an annual rodeo. It is about 20 minutes from Tambor, which has an airstrip. It is near Montezuma and Mal Pais. I have no knowledge of the school you mentioned. I have been there many times because we go to Tambor every year, and Tambor has even fewer amenities than Cobano. My husband and I are going to move to Tambor, which tells you that we like the area. If you are looking for malls and amenities like you are used to at home, you won’t find it here. If you like a slower life style and want to be near the ocean, you probably will like it.

Huh! Would love to use on-line, but have two Schedule C forms (the last ones) that will also need to be submitted with this return. So would like to use a local U.S. accountant for this one last return and then can file ourselves.

David…..say more about the 5471 being filed apart from the tax return. We were given to believe that they needed to be filed at the same time………
Hi Sue, I have been using Randalll Lindner in Escazu He is great and his phone number is 2288 2201. Ron USCG Ret
We used Mr. Lindner for our 5471 filing. He emailed the forms to us in the States, which we handed over to our local tax prep guy. He did it in a timely manner, and we were happy with the results. We “found” him when he spoke at the ARCR seminar.

In addition to a lawyer keeping our books and holding a yearly meeting, we have 2 problems we need resolved. When we formed our second corporation, it was mistakenly listed in the National Registry under the wrong name. So instead of having, say, the “Puppy” corporation, we have the “Ruppy” Corporation. These are not the real names, but just an example. One letter of the corp was changed. The second problem we have is that this particular corp was formed when we bought our second lot (we have 2 lots). But for some reason this lot is attached (for lack of a better word) to the original owner’s corporation, not ours. Our lots are located in Tambor. I must say that with the exception of the first lawyer, the other lawyers have always agreed to meet us in our hotel lobby in San Jose the morning of our departure, which is usually on a Saturday or Sunday. And we are very thankful for that. Right now our friends in Tambor have one of their lawyers looking into the second problem, and hopefully he will come up with a solution that is less expensive then what our lawyer wants to fix the problem. We can’t afford to spend thousands of dollars on this.

My husband and I are having the same problem as you. We have been through 4 attorneys in 5 years. Our current attorney wants to charge us an arm and a leg for everything. If you have any success, I am hoping you will post your findings.

My husband and I joined this association several years ago after we went to one of their monthly seminars about retiring in Costa Rica. If you are thinking about moving to CR, I highly recommend the seminar. We will re-attend before we make our move as retirement is about 8 years away for us. The association’s newsletters are very informative. The only negative thing I can say about ARCR is we used one of the attorneys who left his/her card at the seminar. This attorney turned out to be very disappointing. But then again, we have now been through 4 different attorneys in 5 years and are looking for a fifth. Our friends, who have lived there for over 30 years, still can’t find a decent attorney, so I guess I can’t blame ARCR!! My advise is join!!

Can you tell me exactly where Rios del Sol is in Tambor? Are there any signs once you get off the ferry? We will be in Tambor in May and would like to check it out.

After visiting CR in 2002, my husband and I decided to buy land as an investment. We now plan on retiring there. Anyway, we bought land in Tambor. We ended up there because when I did my research on the net, we found some lots there in our price range. Yes, it was that simple. The only other location we really considered was further north in the Guanacaste area. We initially bought one lot which sits on a hill overlooking the Pacific. A year later we bought a second lot across the street. I am not a beach person myself, nor do I like hot weather. But my husband loves to fish and scuba dive, so this move will really be for him. I love wildlife and can really live just about anywhere. Retirement is 9 years away for us. We plan on building a house in about 7-8 years. We’ll rent our house in the States until we are sure CR is for us. Cheryl
