There have been several articles about the Caribbean side of Costa Rica
in the archives (including one written by myself). Lots of rumors of about
this beautiful place have been around for many years, you would can gain
another perspective by reading these archived articles.chetohrtMemberIn relation to Sprites comment about Americans being notoriously fearful (true after
8 years of the politics of fear”), it’s ironic that our national motto is home of
the brave, land of the free. We are no longer brave or free… The Republicans have
“crash and burned” the United States, and have the audacity to claim that they
are agents of change, my guess is that Americans will be living in
Mcmerica soon. Sure glad we have a house in Costa Rica.chetohrtMemberYour thoughts concerning the price to a Tico are well founded-they would get
a citizens discount-1000 colones per day per vest. After the vests are paid for
(might even be able to get them donated by manufacturer), any revenue would be
better than none, with proceeds going to the individual communities life guard
programs.chetohrtMemberIf the rental price would be too high, it could be adjusted to say…$5.00 per day
(20 rentals would pay for the vest, it would just take twice as long). Having been a
sailor all of my life I agree with you that people do not wear inflatable PFDs on boats (they feel invincible-I’m up here on a boat and the waters down there). If the water was too dangerous most prudent people would stay out. It’s the in between scenarios that unfortunately sucker most people in due to a faulty judgement call. I think that “Joe” and his family from Nebraska (who have never seen or been near the ocean) would gladly
plunk down $20 to assure his families safety, and there are plenty of “Joes” that
visit the beaches of Costa Rica, and unfortunately end up drowning due to a lack of
survival skills in the ocean. If it were possible to ask, I wonder what would be
the replies of the many people who have drowned wether they would have liked to
have had a life vest on.chetohrtMemberThanks for your opinions and contact information, I guess we’ll
have to see what comes next.chetohrtMemberI have had excellent experiences with Grettel Caldera (SAN JOSE), very honest
and dilligent. Gclegal@ice.co.cr , and have processed through her (2) pieces of
property.
Chet OhrtchetohrtMemberDiego, would like to discuss concept with you, awaiting your email.
Thanks
ChetchetohrtMemberI, like Diego would be willing to wager (considering the protests that occurred
recently in Iraq) that the Iraqis would want us out. Maybe the exercise of the
power and importance of honest voting would have an impact not only on the Iraqis but on Americans also, considering next Novembers elections in the US will undoubtedly determine the future of the U.S as well as the rest of the world. I Sure am glad We’ve got a house in Costa Rica!!chetohrtMemberDiego,
We’re not supposed to leave email addresses, but would love to strike up
a conversation with you concerning this. Ohrtchet@bellsouth.net (sorry Scott)chetohrtMemberOk, I’d like to chime in on this one, (I know we are supposed to be talking about
Costa Rica in this forum,) but I cant resist, now that the topic has turned to whats
been happening here in America in relation to the war in Iraq. The thing I dont understand is, if Bush is pronouncing that this war is all about spreading Democracy
(WMDs and Saddam Hussein having already fallen by the wayside), why no one is
“taking Bush” up on this by suggesting that we show real Democracy in Iraq. This
could be done by holding an internationally supervised Election (no electronic
voting machines), in which one question would be asked of the Iraqi people “Do you
want the United States to leave Iraq?” All Iraqis would be eligible to vote
(including “insurgents”, if they are Iraqi citizens. When 51% of the electorate
votes “Yes”, we leave, and the United Nations could step in in the interim. This
would allow our country to save face (we brought them the “power of the vote”),
and allow the Iraqis to dictate their own future. Any thoughts on this?chetohrtMemberDiego, may I speak to you via private email?
Thanks
Chet

chetohrtMemberWe recently rented a Car from Deans company (a tracker 4×4),
and I have nothing but good things to say about our experience.
We had no problems with the vehicle, Diego was right on time
both on delivery and pickup. One has to realize that the $35/day
represents about 1/2 the normal rental fee, compared to other
agencies, including insurance. I would definately recommend this
company and will use them on future trips to Costa Rica.
Chet OhrtchetohrtMemberThanks for your comments on Puerto Viejo. My wife and I fell in love
with the area (she is 7th generation Jamaican), and it reminds her
of the version of the Jamaica she grew up in until the age
of 17. We have recently purchased a home in Cocles, and plan on
retiring there as soon as possible. We also enjoyed the gentleness
and creativity of this eclectic community, with lots of laughing children playing freely, amazing beauty of environment, and the
best food I have eaten. I can see where the comments “rumors and
misinformation have served expats well” is very true indeed.chetohrtMemberBija,
Just came back from visiting Puerto Viejo and we rented a 4X4 from
“Rent a 4×4 in Costa Rica” The Trackers basic but gets the job done, good service. It certainly was worth $35/day. Dean/Diego delivered the car as promised and on time. I would definately recommend. -
