Hi,
That seems extremely pricey; of course it depends on the kind of furnishings you want. I just did a 4+ bedroom house with nice furnishings and a pool table for about $20,000. You could probably do it cheaper if you really shopped around or had furniture made. Contact me personally and I can give you more information on where to look.
cindycMemberCan we talk a little bit about what is happening in Costa Rica? In my area of the south/central pacific there has recently been a string of home invasion style robberies where people have been beaten, drugged, and even raped. All gringos for obvious reasons. We do not have a police force here; the nearest police are an hour away and typically take 2-3 hours to respond; the thugs know this.
As a community we have come together and formed a tico/gringo neighborhood watch type group. This group has met with the mayor and city council of Quepos, and also the police chief. They have been very supportive of providing us with a promised police presence once they receive about 25 new officers. It hasn’t happened yet, but they are sending patrols down here now. The city council has given us permission to control the roads if we want to do that. Not close them, but monitor who is coming in and out.
Personally, we have a tico couple that will be living at the bottom of our property so there will always be someone here. We have put up fences and gates. We got a large dog. We will be putting some perimeter alarms around the property. But the bottom line is we are responsible for our own security. We are doing everything we know how to do to make sure the gun stays put away. But if someone comes through all of the above we have to assume they mean us harm. What ever happened to the good old days when people waited til you left and then came in and took your stuff? Now there are crazies out there who get a kick out of hurting you in the process. I hate guns, but I’m feeling that at this point it is a necessary evil; as stated before in this thread I’m not willing to become a victim.
cindycMemberHi Scott,
Overall I liked the video; just one picky comment. You have a Blue & Gold Macaw on the frame and that is a species that is not found in Costa Rica. Scarlet Macaws are the most prevelant here.
cindycMemberAlfred, thanks for all your input, I appreciate it! If you’re ever in the Quepos/Matapalo area, stop by for a game! Hopefully, I’ll have some practice by then.
Scott, thanks for the tip…..my driver paled when I said we were going to Hooters and was greatly relieved when he saw the final destination.
cindycMemberYes, they are wood and seemed to be reasonably priced to me. This company has been making them here in CR since 1957. You can look at their web site for more info.
cindycMemberThe prices on these tables run from $2600 to $5,000 or so; depending on the type of wood and style of the base. They are good quality, one inch slate. The price includes balls, triangle, 6 cues, a table brush, & chalk.
cindycMemberRuth,
I will be happy to let you know the prices whether I buy or not; I’m going to San Jose on Wednesday and will check it out. I did see a Sportcraft Lexington 7ft. table on the PriceSmart web site for about $1100 and change. The description says nothing about being a slate table, so I’m sure it’s not a high end table, but could be OK depending on what you’re looking for.

cindycMemberThanks Scott; I do know where the Hooters is, mainly because when I saw it for the first time I was thinking my eyes were deceiving me. There couldn’t be a HOOTER’S in Costa Rica, could there? How did this happen?
Alfred, thanks for the information. I had a table growing up but have never bought one myself; so it helps. Ever think about shipping some down here?

cindycMemberHi,
I would recommend Patrick Heinen, Adobe Construction. He just finished a three house project for us south of Quepos and it was a really good experience. I would use him again in a heartbeat.

cindycMemberThis is all incredible to watch for me. Do you really think with that much money and all they have built is a gate, that they will in any way fulfill their obligations? I bought in a small development, 25 lots, and took a chance that they would complete the infrastructure after a lot of due diligence. They have completed the roads, wells, and all the electricity in the span of one year with a fraction of the money these people have. Please wake up and stop sending these people money. Scott has done everything he can to make you wake up and smell that good Costa Rican coffee, but somewhere else! I’ll probably be sued now too.

cindycMemberI recommend Frank Chicas. I have used him several times in San Jose as a driver and I know he goes all over the country. He speaks great English and has helped me get my driver’s license and many other things where I needed someone who spoke Spanish. Very nice guy. His numbers are 391-2030 & 283-8857.
cindycMemberThanks Jim & Scott,
I couldn’t really understand what they were saying, and now I do. It did occur to me after I posted that you rarely see a Tico door closed during the day.

cindycMemberI think what you are talking about is not a “notarization” but an “authentification”. The Secretary of State will look at your documents and verify that the official signatures on it are authentic. Such as the County Clerk was actually the person elected to that office during the time of the issuance of the document. If it is a notarized document they will verify the notary is indeed a notary for your state and in good standing. The Secretary of State puts a stamp on your document that it is authentic and does not notarize it. I did mine in California and was able to just mail it to the Secretary of State; it was returned within about 2 weeks.
cindycMemberHi,
We can usually bet on losing our satellite connection when it rains; it usually doesn’t last very long. It’s just a pain restarting it.

cindycMemberDogo,
Yes, I loved the movie As Good As It Gets. As I recall, Jack Nicholson played an obsessive/compulsive, agorophobic, homophobic, rude man who could barely function in society. I can see why you would relate to him.
But at the end of the movie he gets that he’s a little over the top and gets back on his meds, takes in his homeless gay neighbor, gets the girl, and even loves dogs. Something tells me you’re never going to “get it” so I’m leaving this conversation because there really is no reasoning with you; as I said, you disrespect everyone elses opinion and then demand respect for yourself. Intelligent conversation goes both ways.Have fun!
