ROTFLMAO! My sentiments exactly. But don’t let the men know what it means; it’s just for us women who sit around plotting on how to make their lives miserable……..

cindycMemberDear Dogo,
If you’re going to summarily diss people you could at least spell their name right. It’s not Marvella or Marbella, it’s Maravilla. It is not Loutus, it’s Lotus. You talk about respecting people and show an utter lack of it in your posts.
cindycMemberDiego, seems to me that you are calling gringas “men bashers” when you are turning around and doing the same thing except it’s “women bashing”. Not sure who you are hanging out with but none of the gringas I know fit your description and I think your broad sweeping generalizations are unreasonable. IMHO. The women I know love their relationships with men for the most part; there are difficult people from each gender that you have to deal with occasionally, but that’s part of life. I believe there is someone out there for everyone; maybe that’s naive but you shouldn’t have to give up who you are to have any relationship.
And just a thought that may put you over the edge; not all women are cut out to be mothers. Me being one of them. Not because they are smelly, or leave the door open, or I can have more material things without them. I just consider it the most important job on the planet and if you’re not up for it, don’t do it. If more women really thought about this instead of just “doing what they’re supposed to do” we wouldn’t have so many screwed up kids.
cindycMemberI have traveled Sansa many times and only been asked to pay for overweight baggage once in Drake’s Bay; I think I was close to ten pounds over and it cost something like $3.00. I think in places like Tamarindo and Drake’s Bay where they are trying to upgrade the airport facility you are more likely to get charged. I’ve never been charged in Quepos. You should have time to make the 10:10 flight but they will put you on a later flight if they have room. Just so you know the Sansa terminal is separate from the main terminal; maybe a five minute walk. For those of you who don’t know this, Sansa has a great deal on a two week unlimited flying pass for $250. We used it once and it was great; you can even make reservations and don’t have to go standby.

cindycMemberIt could also be “Cactus Juice” which I’ve tried and it’s pretty effective and non-toxic. Even smells really good.

cindycMemberWe just made the move to CR and decided to sell our last house in Los Osos, CA (central coast, north of Santa Barbara); it only took us a couple months to sell but we drastically reduced the price. Otherwise, homes are sitting for months. So, I guess the moral is,if you’re willing to price it much lower and possibly even take a loss, it will move. Not a fun way to do real estate but we thought it might get even worse and it was time to cut our losses.

cindycMemberWe’re just finishing building two houses in Portalon; one house should be done in late October and the other maybe the first of the year. We have 12 acres and it’s very exciting. We’re just staying at a friends beach house in the mean time. Keep in touch, we’ll be neighbors soon enough!

cindycMemberHi Coleman,
I agree, what a welcome change! Just so you know, Quepos to Dominical is closer to two hours; we are staying in Matapalo right now and went south the other day and the road to Dominical is abysmal. Car sized pot holes.
Of course it depends on how much of a maniac you are when driving. Where is your property?CC
cindycMemberHi,
I just moved down here and I can tell you that the road is happening! They are not only putting new material and grading the old road from the Sevegre to Quepos, they are building an entirely new road through the palm orchards. There is a new bridge also at Portalon and a couple of the smaller bridges.

cindycMemberI’m building just south of there in Portalon and have a wonderful builder, Patrick Heinen, who’s company is Adobe construction, and also works with an Architect. I hear lots of horror stories about people building down there and we have had such an easy time, it’s been great. And, we’ve been out of country while its being done. His email is
patrick@costaricahousebuilder.com or you can email me at cindy@ccobb.net and I’ll send you pictures.cindycMemberI bought my car on Ebay a couple years ago and it was a very good experience; they had a multitude of pictures as you say and it was as represented when I got it. Got a good price on it also. One thing I heard down in Costa Rica, and I can’t verify it true, but I was told that after Katrina hundreds of flooded out cars where shipped to Central America, cosmetically refurbished, and sold to unwitting buyers. Just a heads up when you’re looking to buy a car down there. A reason your plan may be a good one.

cindycMemberI am using Barry Wilson, barry@shipcostarica.com, when we move in August.
He has been very responsive and competitively priced. I’ve seen lots of good reviews of his services.Cindy
cindycMemberFrom what I’ve observed and heard it is mostly afternoons and nights. Last time I was there we had a thunder and lightening storm that lit up the sky all night long; it was spectacular. I agree, I like the rain and if it won’t slow you down it would be a great adventure!

cindycMemberIf you decide to do the Osa you might try the Marenco Rain Forest Lodge. You have to take a boat to it, it is a decent lodge for the price, and the staff is very good. You can go on several hikes in and around Corcovado or go out to Cano island for snorkeling. When deciding which to do you might consider when you are coming; if it’s during the rainy season the Osa could be taking a chance you might be rained in. You would have a little more flexibility if you were doing the drive trip.

cindycMemberMy suggestion would be to make it a project between now and October and learn some basic Spanish through any of the available programs; I’ve enjoyed “unforgettable languages”. I don’t speak a lot of Spanish and have really had not much trouble getting around; plenty of people speak enough English that you can get through it. As far as staying in San Jose the Cariari B & B is nice; Only 3-4 rooms and reasonably priced.
At least you’ll have beer!CC
