Anyone who thinks the halocaust didn’t happen should be given a free ticket to the museum in D.C.; I was sick when I came out of there.
cindycMemberThanks very much, it is rather low but I thought it might be worthy of some information. Are the tires in CR, I’m guessing, more expensive? I guess I’m asking because the import laws seem to indicate that used tires are not allowed in a container except if they are on a vehicle. We were thinking maybe it would be better to leave the used tires on and get new ones when we are down there so we have some spares.
Thank you for reminding me of reality too; there won’t be an “Americas Tire” on every street corner. What was I thinking?

cindycMemberDon’t know if you remember this, but I used to work in the industry…..
luckily got out of that pretty fast. The previous name was the “MX” missile; “When you care enough to send the very best, MX”. Guess that sounded way to hawkish and “Peacemaker” sounds so much better when you’re killing people.CC
cindycMemberWhere are you having your fingerprints done? If it’s through ARCR the Parque del Lago is about a half block away; it’s a little more than $75 but is nice and has a fairly decent restaurant.

cindycMemberI usually wear long pants in San Jose; or at least capris. However, out at the coast even a lot of the ticos wear shorts that are around the tourist areas. I’ll never forget my first trip to San Isidro; we got out of the car in shorts and flip-flops with a camera around our neck. We looked comical…….no one had to guess where we were from.

cindycMemberThere is an article in AM Costa Rica this morning that says they are bidding out the four bridges that were washed away in last years floods; bids are due by 7/7.

cindycMemberIt is perplexing; There is so much commerce that goes through there, tons of big rigs. I’ve been told the big rigs use that road even though it’s bad because otherwise they would have to go up to San Isidro and through San Jose and back west again, which takes a lot of gas. Every once in a while I’m told they get mad because of the condition of the road and block the bridges and shut it down. Doesn’t seem to have worked so far……I guess I’m not going to hold my breath that it will be done soon. FYI, it’s the Rio Sevegre.

cindycMemberWhen I was there a month ago it seemed like it had at least been graded; it was really bad in March. My friend has property just before Matapalo and they are going to take the road off course a little and through his land; they have paid him for it and the surveyors were out there last time I was there and marked where the road is going. Some other friends of ours also sold the very bottom part of their lot so the road could be widened. I’m hoping these are signs that it will actually start happening soon.

cindycMemberI agree; I’m more likely to get hit by a beer truck than die of avian flu……

cindycMemberThanks Scott,
I think I will contact Dr. Molina; My vet has been helpful here but I think having the two of them talk would be great. I guess it’s getting more difficult to do this now that avian flu is an issue and there are now quarantines required; sounds like it’s an in-home quarantine before you leave but finding out the details has not been easy.

cindycMemberI’ve been debating about the auto issue too; all I’ve read says don’t do it. However, we have a 97 Nissan pickup 4X4 that has basically sat in our driveway for the past three years, low miles, paid off, and the quotes I have received are in the neighborhood of $3000 to bring it in. Also, from research, don’t know if I could find a used vehicle in this good of shape for less than $10,000. We did consider driving down because we’ve had a hard time figuring out how to get our McCaw down there; I think I’ve figured it out so we decided not to do that. The problem being that most airlines will take birds in cargo, but you can book only 3 days ahead and they won’t fly them if it’s over 85 degrees, which basically takes out Houston and Miami for the next 6 months. Anyway, Continental will let you take them in the cabin.
We are settling in Portalon; about half way between Quepos and Dominical on the central/southern pacific coast. Do stay in touch…
