cfoutz – My husband and I are also in our 40’s (late 40’s) and we are moving to Costa Rica in June for a six month trial period.
We are not ready to retire and cannot afford to do so.
My husband works from home as a freelance designer. He started his business a couple of years ago and we have waited until he had a good client base before we thought about moving.
We are moving on a trial basis to see if we can support ourselves on his income. Whenever we visited CR we would ask the same question as you. How do people our age do it?
The answer we would get is, you have to find a niche or find something that works for you, whatever that may be. So we went this route. Good luck on pursuing your dream.
cmcintireParticipantI know it is definitely open on Thursday as I was recenlty there. It is open one other day. I think it is Wednesday but not certain. It’s a great market.
cmcintireParticipantI had a question regarding the rentista issue and hoping to stem off of this topic as it relates. It is my understanding that the required funds was reduced down to 60k. Although you still need to transfer 2500/month but for only two as opposed to five years. My husband and I plan to go this route when we move, so here is my question. You transfer the 2500k per month into a CR acct. And have proof of such. Do you have to then in turn spend that money in the CR economy? Or can you just keep it in the CR bank and withdraw the 60k (or whatever amt is required) once you get residency or keep it there if you wish. I am imagining that this rule is in place so you can show that you can support yourself, but in our situation at first we may not be living there 12 months out of the year. Hope this makes sense.
cmcintireParticipant
After about a dozen trips to CR I finally made my first visit to The Osa 2 years ago followed by another one last year. I’ve now been to all 4 corners of CR and lots of in the middle and I can say without a doubt that The Osa has been the most beautiful. pristine region by far that I have visited and I HOPE it STAYS that way. There is no need to turn that region into another Tamarindo type area.[/quote
Bogino, I could not agree with you more. The OSA is one of the most beautiful places in the world. One of the reasons we bought property in the southern zone was the close proximity the Osa. It would be a travesty if an airport was ever built in that area. The new road has done enough to make it accessible.
cmcintireParticipantWe used Daveed Hollander to purchase property in Uvita and we could not have been happier. I would highly recommend him or anyone on his team.
cmcintireParticipantI asked my realtor and he told me that Mauricio is no longer with Facio Abogados. He is now working in the family business (from what I understand it is non law related). I have recently dealt with Jose Arce at the law firm who seemed very capable. I believe he is now is charge of most of Mauricio accounts with Rafael Canas assisting as the partner. Mauricio helped me with buying our property. I only had a few questions regarding property taxes and corporate status and Jose was prompt in responding. Hope this helps.
cmcintireParticipantMauricio is definitely top notch and would highly recommend him. Playa Ventanas…nice area. We were seriously considering a lot there as well but went with the one in Uvita.
cmcintireParticipantLast year we bought property in Uvita. Randall Sanchez represented the sellers. Our attorney, Mauricio Gonzalez Crespo, who was in Escazu and who was excellent disclosed at the start of the transaction that he was a friend of Randall Sanchez and that he was an excellent and trustworthy lawyer. Even though I did not have direct dealing with Mr. Sanchez, I can say our entire sales transaction went smoothy.
cmcintireParticipantWe stayed at a place called Casa Bambu and loved it. I think they have monthly rates. There was plenty of wildlife right outside your door (birds, monkeys, etc.) and you are not too far from Corcovado.
cmcintireParticipantThank you Lotus we will take a look at the website. Appreciate you passing along the information. Every little bit helps. Take Care.
cmcintireParticipantThank you Lotus these websites are helpful and thank you costaricafinca for the information on the slide together systems.
cmcintireParticipantThanks for the information. Would you have a link to the manufacturer you looked at? I think I have seen the type of system you are talking about. Another type of pre-fab we are considering is one that offers several home designs that you can choose from and often customize. Have you or anyone else on this post seen something along those lines?
cmcintireParticipantWe are also exploring the possibility of building a prefabricated home on the land we bought in Uvita. We are looking for a company that does more of a modern design. If anyone knows of a place they can recommend (I have reviewed the ones identified on this website)or has any comments regarding the pros and cons of doing a pre-fab would love to hear from you.
