Not sure about your phone but your husbands phone won’t be an issue. I phones from 4S and newer from any US company have sim slots. Go to Mongo or almost anywhere that sells sims and replace the one in your phone. Recently got voice/data for 5 hours for 5K colones.

I have a place down the street from Las Olas….it has been abandoned for some time for a reason…some of them suggested by the prior posters…I suggest you contact our local realtor…Scott knows him, Dave Treadway. He can be contacted thru this site….Dave will fill you in ….

What about the window units we use in the USA. Or central air
    like in the USA
    Thanks

Don’t see either of those very much on the coast…central is very expensive to maintain, and why cool all the rooms ? Mini-splits work great, and you can select which rooms you want cool. Central system goes out and you’ll be waiting, and waiting for the repairman with a hand full of Colones….

We are using Air-Pros and have had good luck with them….that being said, we still need to have them serviced almost one a year..we live on the beach….and the remotes are not the best quality….

Often, some of the worst driving and parking offenses I see, are from the tourists….drive with your eyes open, and courteous…and above all, watch the speed limit….I too have been stopped by the “radar” and just sent on my way…again…..be courteous….

Sometimes you can get by with a vehicle that just has higher ground clearance….likely y6ou will need to buy a 4wd for that, along with a longer travel suspension…..this is something most sedans just don’t offer…

Dave Treadway, who is a contributor to this site, does property management…he is looking over our house in Esterillos Oeste, while we are not there…and will help with rentals…

    sprire,
    I couldn’t agree with you more….
    ssure,
After years of traveling in Mexico, and looking for the “right” place…we realized we couldn’t possibly live in that country…for the reasons you cited…it’s pretty scary to be stopped at a traffic stop by a teenage kid, with a Polica uniform, and an automatic weapon, asking you to get out out the car….but that is only 1 reason we didn’t buy in Mexico…and just because a traffic cop in CR, stops people once in a while does not mean the country is going to Hell in a handbasket…now or anytime soon…these people just don’t have the DNA, genes, or whatever to pull that off…They are , on a whole, friendly, helpful, non-violent, and family oriented..

When you have that attitude, you just promote the wrong…and bribes are not part of anybodys “salary”….

Charity was likely the wrong word to use….On one trip to the BCR in Jaco, we had left our light on in the rental car…of course our bank time took much longer than we expected….when we came out of the bank, our car was dead….we flagged down some passing by Policia, and asked them if they could help….My Spanish is muy malo, but I unstood him to say, ge would be right back…within 10 minutes, they showed up with some jumper cables, and gave us a jump…I gave him a $20 bill as “charity”…and we shook hands and left…I would do the same thing in the states, or anywhere else in the world…but to give money to a traffic cop, for a ticket…. ? Like a previous poster said “it would depend on the circumstance, but unlikely”

    Charity? Charity???
c’mon now….let’s say he stops 20 people a day…that shouldn’t be too hard, and he gets maybe 1/2 of them to pay up….$200 per day is a far cry from charity…

    Scott,
    I hope that wasn’t Dave T…
In any case, the radar guns seem to be in a coupla place near Jaco, and on that side of the Tarcoles bridge…I also was stopped once, and told the officer, quite politely, to go ahead and give me the ticket….he hemmed, and hawed a bit…then sent me on my way…since then I’ve slowed down a bit, and just let all the Tico’s pass me…
