can anyone say DRONE???
I hope you know the difference in a helicopter with a gyro camera and a drone! If you are in “shock” by this then you live in a very simple world, unable to appreciate good photography and editing!

This is by far the most impressive aerial view footage of San José that has ever been filmed… Aerial HD filming with the Cineflex V14HD in Costa Rica. Aerial Filmworks provided the gyro-stabilized camera system, helicopter mount and camera operator. . . .

Sorry, I missed it on this site – I guess I need to spend a few more minutes on the main page instead of going straight to the Discussion Forum!

The wine, as you know, is available as well, but the preliminary round or two will be cervesa or rum.

in reply to: An investment worth considering. 12.85% CD rates #203804
Good point! In Costa Rica, CD rates are quoted after taxes are withheld, so if a CD is quoted at 9.2%, for example, the actual rate paid is 10% before Costa Rica’s 8% tax is withheld. And no tax return filing to Costa Rica is required.

In the case of non-profits like Coopenae and others, the interest paid on CDs is not taxable.

A U.S. attorney who is a savvy investor recently told me that taxes paid to a foreign government are deductible dollar-for-dollar from your obliation to IRS. So there is no liability for double taxation.

BTW, the most recent two-year rate is now 12.35%. S/he who hesitates can still get a good deal.
David – On the advice of friends we got involved with Coopenae about 18 months ago. I was concerned that about dollar fluctuation so I split my deposit 50/50 colones & dollars to “hedge my bet”, firuring that is one went up, the other would go down (I’ll probably hear from W-41 on that theory, but oh well).

Because of the stability of the exchange rate I have made 13% and 7%, respectively. The “blind hog theory” at it’s best, no doubt.

So anyway, before all the naysayers come out of the wood works, I suggest they do a bit of research…..

^^^ one of the top 8 largest financial institutions in CR (including the “government insured banks”!
^^^ One of the top 5 financial institutions in CR for ROI over the past 10 years

To offer an olive branch to the naysayers, I suggest one with vodka and a twist!

Contaminated Polio Vaccine Responsible for Human Cancer Cases

In 2002, the journal Lancet published compelling evidence that contaminated polio vaccine was responsible for up to half of the 55,000 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cases that were occurring each year.

Do your homework before subjecting your children to any vaccine. A great way to get started is to simply use the Search Feature at the top of each of my Web pages and search my site as it contains a litany of research on vaccine safety, and the lack thereof. The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) also provides well-referenced information on vaccines and diseases, such as HPV, rotavirus and polio.

I’m not making fun Maravilla, I’m just too old and too far gone to worry about this. My contribution to my health is not touching a salt shaker since the day I left the USMC (1969) and not touching a coca cola product to my lips since 1986.

I’m so healthy I could die! Keep your eye on the obits – you are all invited!!!

And sadly, the Texas BBQ joint appears to be no more!
We have two different pools in my neighborhood (at the beach in the Central Pacific). One is concrete but built above ground, the other is concrete but built below ground. The above ground one overflows during rainy season but is much more easily maintained than the inground one. The inground one is often chocolate colored during rainy season because of the mud that is able to flow into it when it is raining hard. Jessica
Obviously very bad placement, very bad design and very bad implementation! Except for a few blowing leaves and occasional toad poop, our in ground, salt water pool stays pristine year-round (and I am on prowl for the toads, even tonight)!

There are many options, including SlingBox, USTVNow.com, Hulu, Roku, etc. etc. You will not go wanting for US TV if that is what you want. And, depending on which cable system serve your area of Atenas, you may get a lot of US TV over basic cable.

I file the corporate tax and Municipal tax for many non-resident friends in the Cantons of Nicoya and Hojancha. It is SO EASY! If you have a friend that lives nearby your property, just ask them to help you pay the local tax, Solidarity Tax (Luxury Tax) and/or Corporate Tax.

They can either wire you the $$, or just deposit it in your account in the States and then you pay by credit card or go to the ATM and withdraw the $$ and pay on their behalf!
Hello. I was looking at local flights this morning, Nature Air specifically, and noticed that there are three categories for cost. Flex, promo, and locos.

Assuming that the cheapest fare (locos) is for residents and perhaps crazy people, heh, I wondered if having a pensionado cedula would apply for this discounted rate, or if it only applies to permanent residents.

Park entry fees, festivals and other events also have discounted rates for residents. Does anyone have experience trying to take advantage of these discounts using a pensionado cedula?
Regardless of the particular entity’s current policy, it would not be a bad practice if more (or all) of us asked for the discounts. It may benefit us in the long run if we ask because it mat cause more of the transit companies, hospitality companies, etc. to offer the discounts or comply with our requests.

Scott, why not pursue a “WLCR Discount Card” for full time residents? I would think that you have enough “stroke” to at least pursue it!

Here in Samara, after we started the “FIRST FRIDAY” and now “THIRD THURSDAY” program(s) more and more restaurants have offered and given out discount cards to “regular customers”. They started out with a “no sales tax” offer with 2 different sets of “books”, but as time goes along more and more of them are “getting legal” by charging the 13% sales tax and then discounting the total bill by 15%.

Some even offer 20% discounts for September – November for full time residents.

And for those of you that may have an interest in starting a “FIRST FRIDAY” (or similar) program in your area, my offer still stands – I’ll help you get it started – all you need is an email list of local area expats and it is SO EASY!

Tomorrow, we will probably have 60-65 people at our FIRST FRIDAY! It’s a blast! My goal now is to have Scott and his lady friend attend – then I’ll work on David & Marsha, CostaricaFinca, Maravilla and maybe Sprite! The after party will be at my house and we will all watch Fox News together!
