ParticipantWhen my husband went into the BCR yesterday, the tellers called him over to tell him there would be an ‘English Language’ page added in August. Presently the only the staff are using it, to make sure it works well.
Using the Clave dinamica seems to be a good addition and works well.costaricafinca
Participant‘Raw’ coffee beans must be processed within 24 hours of picking, so that’s a bust! However, processed but not roasted is a different scenario. Many companies do it.
Other flowers and/or fruit have to be inspected thoroughly, and if ‘anything’ is found, you may be fined. This is allowed twice, then you may not be allowed to export again.costaricafinca
ParticipantIt is important to know that one must be a legal resident of Costa Rica to obtain CAJA coverage. This can take a year or more…
The meds. covered are often generic.costaricafinca
Participant*You cannot operate the ‘Body Talk practice’ either, until you have permanent status. You can own, but not teach or perform any hands on help.

ParticipantMinuit, it is perfectly legal to ‘own and manage a B&B’ no matter what your residency status is, it is the working at it, ie, serving, cooking, cleaning, bookkeeping, etc that is the illegal part. Unless this law has changed since then.

ParticipantThere has been no mention of the fact that it is ‘illegal to work here’, unless one has permanent residency which can take 4-5 years! Yes, you can own and manage a business, but cannot perform the actual work yourself.

ParticipantI don’t think that Puriscal has a very ‘dry season’.

ParticipantWe have boxes sent all the time from the USA using the postal service. The true contents/value are posted and we have never had to pay duty.

ParticipantChecked out about growing hops here ,and it’s a ‘no go’. They are a ‘long day crop’ and Costa Rica can only grow ‘short day’ crops successfully which I did know.

ParticipantWell, I don’t brew beer, but I do make wine here, many different varieties. One of the problems is obtaining all the extra ‘stuff’ you need constantly and having to have it shipped from elsewhere. I have had a quick look, at growing hops but haven’t got any further than that.

ParticipantThese are also available at the ‘Do it center’ in near Liberia. All sizes.

ParticipantWe grow avocados in Guanacaste, but Guanacaste covers a big area so a lot will depend on where you intend to plant the trees, near the beach or in the interior. We are in Guayabo de Bagaces.

ParticipantThe $600 will just about cover the cost of your gas for you car, if you have one!
I think it must be very difficult to live here on that amount, especially if you
a, have a family,
b, need to rent a house.
We have lived here for nearly 8 years, and everything has gone up. -
