You need to keep your eyes open at all times whether you are rich or poor.

Kidnapping is not common…but does occasionally happen.

Cell phones are not permitted to be used in any bank by clients, to help stop ‘anyone alerting a partner in crime’ that you have just withdrawn a large amount of money’ and I suppose a bank employee could alert another individual to your deposit, but have never heard of this, but that’s not to say it is impossible to do so.

Be observant when using an ATM just like you would, anywhere else.

Many more Ticos own expensive homes and vehicles than expats… with cars costing almost double than at ‘home’.

Consider installing a noisy alarm system on your home or if renting, choose one that does, depending on location….or have large dogs.

Petty theft is common, so don’t leave bikes outside unless in a secure area.

Avoid leaving articles in your vehicle.

Have you already been to the area you are intending to live in and looked around to see what type of security the ‘neighbors’ have, such as walls, bars on the windows, high fences or razor wire? All are reasonably ‘common’.

Pensionado status requires a ‘guaranteed for life’ pension or annuity, not a ‘steady’ income.

Outlier Legal has offered this information noting that these price ‘quotes’ are for those over 55.

INS the private insurance provider here, may still cover you but not for your pre-existing conditions. You will not be covered by CAJA until you have your cedula.

The CAJA premiums have recently risen so you may have to pay $100 or even more based on your pension amount but you won’t know for sure until CAJA tells you, what they think you should pay. Plus, since it could be a year or two until one is covered, I expect the premiums will have risen by the time you meet with CAJA representatives … as they already risen twice this year.

It has been known for years that the premium charged at one locale can be very different from another, which is why it makes it so hard to know ‘what to expect’…or rather, hope for.

According to the Sloth Sanctuary they no longer accept volunteers as they have found that it is detrimental to the animals. At the Toucan rescue center, they accept paying volunteers for specific time periods but they do not permit you to ‘hold a sloth’

Plenty of dog rescue centers though….free!

Make sure you pool is not right at ground level, if the location is on any sort of a downslope…else in the rainy season you will have one that looks like chocolate milk 😥
Also recommend the business, ecopiscinas in Orotino who ‘made’ one for us.

As far as I am aware, you will still have to purchase it at Bancrédito in Liberia. On Saturday the facility is only open till 12 noon, and on Sundays,it is closed.

I read ‘somewhere’ although can’t remember where, that it was for Measles (rubeola)…but also heard that it may be Rubella (German measles) There is a recent Global update for Measles.

My sister was left almost blind after contacting measles in England as a 2 year old. And a friend, the same age as my sister, was left with a similar vision problem, although she was living in France.

If you haven’t yet ‘visited’ the property I would advise you to wait until you have done so. Do not put any funds ‘up front’ of said visit.
Use your own lawyer not the sellers or developers.

I was under the impression that CAJA wishes to see the exact amount that you used to apply for Pensionado residency, which means at least $1000, and this is what your premium is based on. A new/up-to-date copy of this exact payment, that you get from the US Embassy, is required when you renew you cedula…so unfortunately the $2,700 amount will be the basis of your premium.

I just checked the temps for this area, San Isidro at 1.00PM and it was 86F, while in San Josecito de Heredia it is 1,000 ft higher, at 4,500 ft and so much cooler, at 71F and where I have visited the Toucan Rescue Ranch

You really are best to check these micro-climates for yourself, as what is perfect for one is not necessarily perfect for someone else.

To find temps of 70’s during the day will be very hard to find. You must be at a very high altitude for this.

There has been ‘talk’ of not allowing these older vehicles to be imported but as of now, it is not a problem and of course they must pass the emission test at RITEVE. A vehicle from the UK will be probably be RHD and will no longer pass the inspection process.
