costaricafincaParticipant
Gloria also states that ” Since the laws changed a few years back, they are basing monthly Caja on 13% of the amount you use for your residency, so if your monthly Social Security is $1,000, your Caja would be $130/month.”
costaricafincaParticipantSweikert, I did look at the one on your link. I only read blogs of those showing up in a search of information I am looking for, so here is the experience of another one to look at that shows a similar case of a prolonged attempt to get treatment, and sorry to say, it is not, unusual.
Here is another and sorry it took me a while to find it again…
Both authors have noted that thy have had both good and bad experiences.
Make no mistake in thinking that the majority of those using private care, is expats.
costaricafincaParticipantMy husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was told that this was how long it would take for him to get the necessary surgery through CAJA, so yes we have experienced this wait time. We have also paid for two of our ex-employees to have surgeries in private facilities…due to the extended time frame.
We didn’t come here as pensionados and the pitiful amount that my comment was based on, is not a OAP pension. We are happy with the amount we pay and have never said otherwise, but feel I must point out to other potential residents not to believe what many websites targeting retirees, have on their pages and do not up date them, showing these rising costs.
Suggest we all keep an eye out for this documentary
costaricafincaParticipantImxploring, sorry, it wasn’t directed at you …. and I will ‘fix it’.
costaricafincaParticipantSweikert, wait until you have to pay another increased CAJA fee… though at this point in time you probably have never entered a CAJA facility… and you think you wont object to paying more, and then find the medical procedure you need is not available to you for 2-3 years, so chances are you will opt to pay for private care.
Maybe there is a surgery they can perform to remove some of your outlandish ideas…
costaricafincaParticipantThe young man, does not require ongoing specific medical treatment, and his pension is a good one … one that we could only hope for.
costaricafincaParticipantThere are 52 across the road from where we used to live…with more planned.
costaricafincaParticipantUnfortunately, it is a disability pension and the couple have already determined that they will only use private facilities. I do know of another man, an American who was quoted a similar amount for himself, wife and child.
Another Canadian is paying over $350, applying 6 years ago, under the Investor status but it does not include coverage for his longtime ‘common law wife’, as her (Rentista) Residency/CAJA fees are separate from his. Both are now Permanent residents but are trying to sell their remaining properties to return to Canada to get better access for cancer treatment that he can only get here, privately. It is not a fair playing field.
costaricafincaParticipantA young Canadian man in his early 30’s, who had one pension from the Canadian military was required to pay CAJA, approx. $450 per month, last year for coverage for both him and his wife. And this was before the rate changed in January. When they had first applied for Residency, they had expected to get coverage through ARCR group plan but alas new members are not permitted by CAJA.
costaricafincaParticipantI always recommend the site where you retrieved this information from, and have previously read this article but I would not encourage anyone to expect/hope to only have to pay the “Health Coverage S.E.M” portion and percentages shown.
Of course, I could be totally wrong…costaricafincaParticipantLucky you!!!
costaricafincaParticipantI forgot to address the actual topic. Barbara Ann said ”Our electric is within 100 kwh each month..” and pays approx $250. Our usage shows approx. 205kwh per month, and this month we paid ICE 15,885c. not including the ‘add-ons’. We are in the interior of Guanacaste.
BTW we have a large house but with few appliances or conveniences…:wink:costaricafincaParticipantMany of the stores & businesses that offer ‘10% off’ have higher prices to start with…
costaricafincaParticipantCostaricabill, I second your recommendation to start to work your way along the coast. It is not a beachfront road, and is definitely not direct. To go back and forth to Liberia makes no sense. If you don’t want hot weather, why even bother to go this route?
The town of Liberia does offer a few good restaurants, and it does have sodas and stores…but is wouldn’t qualify as a tourist town. It does offer a movie complex.costaricafincaParticipantI was surprised to read that more airlines use LIR.
The amount and facilities offered by your hotel in Liberia are much less than what is available in San Jose. -
